Company description The Eat Real Festival (ERF) is part urban county fair, part street-food festival, part block party and above all a celebration of delicious food. At Eat Real, participants learn where food comes from, who grows it and how to make it. The Eat Real Festival is an educational program of the non-profit Food Craft Institute, teaching traditional food making techniques and focusing on the creation of viable artisan food businesses in the United States. Eat Real and FCI strive to revitalize regional food systems, build public awareness of the craft of making healthy, delicious food and encourage the growth of American food entrepreneurs. Eat Real Festival is offering two full-time internships designed for people who are passionate about sustainable food and farming and are looking to gain experience and build their network among local food producers, farmers, chefs and leaders in the craft food space.

Eat Real Festival Interns will work closely with the ERF Management Team to execute the Eat Real Festival, a multi-day food festival in Oakland on September 22-24, 2017. Essential duties will include: outreach and marketing support; sponsor and partner relations and coordination; oversight of food vendors; volunteer scheduling; and coordination of demos and educational programming, plus other tasks as needed.


Duties may include:

  • Assist in coordination and scheduling of volunteers at the festival.
  • Create content for social media, newsletters and event website.
  • Manage and schedule festival programming, food demos, educational presentations, DIY areas, contests, DJs and music.
  • Assist in coordination of food vendors for the Festival, tracking of all logistical information, permits, licenses, contracts, insurance, fees and special requests.
  • Attend the event and assist as needed with on-site logistics, programming, vendor/sponsor load-in/load-out and vendor/sponsor check-out.
  • Answer questions about the festival as needed, via phone, email and in person.
  • Other tasks as needed related to your skill sets, interests and/or work experience.

The ideal Eat Real Festival intern will be:

  • Committed to local, sustainable, organic and accessible food and agriculture.
  • Interested in working with food events, festivals, conferences, and/or seminars.
  • Excited to cultivate relationships with chefs, craft food makers, restaurateurs and local community organizations.
  • A high energy, outgoing “people” person.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:

  • Demonstrated ability with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc); Google Apps including Gmail, Calendar and Docs; and Dropbox.
  • Attention to detail and exemplary organizational skills.
  • Great at multi-tasking, thinking and reacting quickly and making well-educated decisions.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Bonus Skills:

  • Experience with food events, festivals, conferences, and/or seminars.
  • Experience with social media and management software (Asana, Hootsuite, etc).
  • Familiarity with Bay Area food trucks and booths, pop-ups, chefs, craft food makers and restaurateurs.

Compensation:

This is full-time internship that is compensated with a monthly stipend of $1,200.

The Eat Real Festival Interns will report to the applicable members of the ERF Management Team.
