We focus on serving fun, interesting takes on classic pastries, breads, cakes, and sandwiches. We serve coffee that we source and roast ourselves. We are lucky enough to live in a place where we have access to beautiful ingredients, and have relationships with our farmers and the community around us! Assistant Baker

This is a full-time position (40 hrs/week and requires 3 or 4 early mornings €“ 4 or 5am - and weekends) that reports to the Bakery Manager and Production Manager. The Assistant Baker is responsible for assisting in the production and baking of all pastries, scones, cookies, some breads, donuts, savory items, sandwiches and more. An effective baker at Tandem must be able to follow instructions and recipes to meet specific standards in an effort to maintain the highest quality. We are a small team that works closely and it is very important that we all work together with a sense of urgency, desire to pay it forward and ultimately have a great time. Friendly, natural, approachable customer service and interpersonal skills are required.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • provide pleasant, inviting, and attentive service for customers and colleagues
  • perform day to day baker duties and operations in a high volume kitchen environment
  • work quickly and efficiently while paying attention to detail and following recipes
  • work with a sense of urgency, creativity and ability to make decisions
  • communicating repair and maintenance needs of equipment and kitchen tools

Requirements:

  • at least 2 years baking and pastry experience in a commercial kitchen
  • demonstrated enthusiasm for service and teamwork
  • consistent attendance and punctuality
  • ability to focus on tasks and take direction in an open kitchen
  • good problem solving in the moment
  • excellent communication and listening skills with customers, coworkers, and managers
  • consistent attention to detail, cleanliness, and organization
  • ability to self direct during slow periods
  • ablility to perform physical tasks - lift 50 lbs above waist

Compensation:
  • $13-$14/hr dependent on experience. Partial health benefits after 90 days!
