Position Summary: The Intern will assist with the implementation of an outreach and communications strategy focused on developing and disseminating resources for several Wallace Center projects. The Intern’s work will be primarily focused on Wallace Center’s multi-year resource development project for limited resource and socially disadvantaged farmers who direct market through farmers markets, as well as farmers market managers. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to lead critical aspects of the farmers market resource development work, while supporting a number of other Wallace Center projects.

Online and new media outreach will be a particular focus of both the farmers market work, and for other Wallace Center projects.

WHOLESALE COORDINATOR

Urban Oaks Farm is accepting applications for a Wholesale Coordinator.  We are seeking someone who will be responsible for managing the wholesale part of our operations including:  all customer contact with restaurants and stores (taking orders, invoicing), supervising and participating in picking and packing orders and bookkeeping.  This person will also be responsible for assisting with other aspects of crop production: seeding, planting, weeding, etc.

Applicant should have 2+ years of farming/culinary experience.  Must have excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills.  Needs to be able to supervise and work collaboratively with other farm staff.  Computer skills are necessary including QuickBooks, Excel, Word, constant contact and email. Must be able to lift 50lbs. and be willing to work in all weather conditions.

3 INTERN POSITIONS: COMMUNICATIONS, OPERATIONS & FUNDRAISING

Mass Farmers Markets is looking for up to three summer interns in Communications, Operations, and Fundraising.  Each intern would work under a specific MFM employee and have a position with its own specific responsibilities.  The Communications internship will focus on the Mass Farmers Market newsletter and social media outreach.  The Operations internship will be more involved with market operations and management.  The Fundraising position will be focused on fundraising and development activities.  Because Mass Farmers Markets is a non-profit payment will be based on previous experience and availability of funding.

Qualifications include:
  • Self-motivated, the ability to work independently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to transport materials (car or zipcar account)
  • Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel and Word

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT SUMMER INTERN
Dickson's Farmstand Meats
New York, NY


Dickson's Farmstand is looking for a summer intern to help develop, launch and execute their online retail store. Currently all of Dickson's sales take place in their Chelsea Market location.  The e-commerce strategy aims at getting locally raised meats and artisanal products into the hands of potential customers who do not currently shop at our retail location.  In addition, the strategy will target the population of New Yorkers who leave the city on weekends, by offering compelling and convenient packages that will allow customer to pre-order and avoid lengthy in-store lines due to normal retail weekend traffic.

Dickson's has already built the online infrastructure and is looking for a motivated individual to take the reins and help realize this budding vision.  Intern will:

- build partnerships with other retailers who will act as distribution points for product
- work with Dickson's Farmstand's Chef (Gabe) and Butcher (Adam) to develop product content
- work with Dickson's employees to pack orders and deliver to locations
- be responsible for reporting and analysis of the success of the online effort

Initial launch of the online store took place on May 12th with an exclusive feature in the NY Times Dining Section, with other media placements to follow.

Additional opportunities exists for work in the cutting room, kitchen and retail store should the candidate be motivated.
