Summary

  • Develop and maintain relationships with retailers, know them personally
  • Maintain and update a list of retailers that carry Creminelli products, and track usage
  • Communicate with retailers when there are new products or tools for retailers, i.e., awards, articles, press.
  • Develop a means of regular communication with retailers of our products

CPPW PROGRAM MANAGER

CFSC Has 450 organizational members across the US and Canada, and catalyzes food systems that are healthy, sustainable, just, and democratic by building community voice and capacity for change.

The Coalition achieves its goals through a comprehensive blend of training, education, and advocacy to further the efforts of grassroots groups to create effective solutions from the ground up.

Recently, CFSC was awarded a two‐year multi‐faceted grant from Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) as part of the Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) initiative (http://www.hhs.gov/ophs/funding/cppwfactsheet.html) to provide technical assistance services on obesity prevention to approximately 20 communities.

These services will include one‐on‐one support for creation of farmers' markets, farm to school projects, healthy corner stores, and procurement policies. Other deliverables include participation in a National Prevention Media Initiative; policy briefs; a national conference on local and state food policy; and healthy corner store webinars.

This program will integrate many of our existing education and technical assistance initiatives and staff.

THE POSITION
This is a mid­level position with the primary responsibility of completing the day‐to‐day tasks associated with the above‐mentioned CPPW program.

It is a full time position based at our Portland, OR office. The Program Manager will report to the Training and Technical Assistance Program Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Coordinate program delivery among technical assistance providers, CFSC staff, and community representatives
  • Research and write case studies of effective local food policies
  • Liaison with federal staff on logistical and reporting matters
  • Track project expenditures and completion of contracted deliverables
  • Gather and compile project outcomes and outputs to fulfill CFSC's reporting duties
  • Provide logistical support for sub‐contractors, community representatives, and staff as needed
  • Other technical assistance program duties as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of three years full time paid experience in public education, program delivery, or technical assistance efforts.
  • Experience and comfort working in collaborative settings with multiple organizational partners
  • Knowledge of or interest in community food security or related fields such as nutrition, agriculture, public health, environmental protection, sustainability, or community development
  • College graduate, with Masters Degree in agriculture, city and regional planning, public health, nutrition, public policy or related field a plus
  • Excellent oral communication and writing skills
  • Ability to travel nationally as needed
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects in a fast moving environment
  • Reside in the Portland, OR area or be willing to move there by November 2010
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
For this full‐time position is $40,000‐$45,000. CFSC offers excellent health, vision, life, and dental insurance, retirement plan, flexible holidays, vacation, and sick leave benefits.
 
This position is funded until July 15, 2012, with the possibility of continuing employment as funding becomes available.

THE POSITION
 
CFSC is hiring a senior level person to provide leadership and vision for its training and technical assistance program. This person will have two sets of duties.

The first set of duties is focused on directing the implementation of the new CPPW grant including managing completion of all deliverables, program staff and consultants, and ensuring the completion of all evaluation and reporting needs for the program. A separate Program Manager position will support the TA Director in this function.

In addition, the TA Director will provide overall direction for the organization's T&TA programs, including managing staff, conducting program development,

This position requires a high level of autonomy, initiative, and ability to work with a range of players in the technical assistance field. The T&TA Program Director will report directly to the Executive Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Direct the implementation of the CPPW obesity prevention program, including supervising program staff, managing relationships with community representatives, partners and federal staff; managing the $1 million budget; developing an evaluation plan and overseeing its completion; developing a sustainability plan; and overseeing completion of all deliverables. In accordance with federal guidelines;
  • Provide leadership and vision to CFSC’s T&TA program, based on our recent strategic plan and further coordination and integration of our technical assistance initiatives;
  • Supervise three to four staff;
  • Foster a team environment that encourages information sharing and collaboration among core TA staff and other staff whose work includes a technical assistance component];
  • Participate in program planning and grantwriting for current and new technical assistance program activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Deep and broad knowledge of the information and capacity building needs of the community food movement, especially among groups working with low income communities;
  • Experience as a technical assistance provider, ideally with a range of approaches and methods. Experience working with farmers or communities of color in this role a plus;
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a leadership role in technical assistance, public education, or training fields;
  • Proven staff management skills;
  • Proven ability to work in collaborative settings with multiple organizational partners;
  • Knowledge of and past work experience in community food security or related fields such as nutrition, agriculture, public health, environmental protection, sustainability, or community development;
  • College graduate, with Masters degree in agriculture, city and regional planning, public health, nutrition, public policy or related field preferred;
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills;
  • Ability to travel nationally as needed;
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team;
  • Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast moving environment;
  • Reside in the Portland, OR area or be willing to move there by November 2010.

ORGANIC FARMING CONSERVATION AND TECHNICAL SERVICES SPECIALIST

Northeast Organic Farming Association of NJ (NOFA-NJ) is seeking a qualified individual for a new position at NOFA- NJ.   NOFA-NJ, in collaboration with USDA/NRCS, is filling the Organic Farming Conservation and Technical Services Specialist position.  This position will serve the organic and sustainable farmers throughout New Jersey by offering technical advice for diseases, insects, production and fertility, as well as write technical reports relating to organic methodology to assist farmers.  The position will also serve to coordinate USDA/NRCS federal EQIP initiatives, advise NRCS employees, assist landowners in laying out conservation practices, and also conduct education and outreach activities on Farm Bill opportunities for organic producers.   
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Degree or advance degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Soil Science, IPM or related field or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of organic agricultural practices, including production, insect and disease management, cover cropping, fertility, etc.
  • Knowledge of USDA/NRCS Farm Bill Programs (EQIP, AMA, CSP, etc.)
  • Current drivers license and own vehicle
  • Ability to work independently  
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to positively interact with a wide variety of people
  • Computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the ability to use other software with training.
GENERAL DUTIES
This position will travel throughout New Jersey to serve organic farmers, farmers transitioning to organic, answering questions or getting answers to questions in a timely manner to assist them to improve practices and respond to immediate pest or production issues.  Writing and publishing technical reports and developing articles alerting farmers to urgent issues and offering solutions is a critical aspect of the position.  Conducting on farm research, workshops and trainings as well as winter education events (i.e. NOFA-NJ Winter Conference, summer Twilight meetings, Beginning Farmer education).   
 
This position will also perform work in support of the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and other suitable USDA Farm Bill programs.  These technical tasks will consist of promotion, outreach, education, landowner contacts, conservation planning, field evaluation and assessment of potential projects, assisting in applying accepted conservation practices, preparing report, conducting training coordinating and communicating with conservationists, engineers, customers and other NRCS personnel and partners.
 
The position is currently a one-year term position for federal fiscal year 2011 (Oct. 1st 2010 – Sept. 30, 2011). It is anticipated that federal funding will be available annually to continue the position, however it is not guaranteed.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN URBAN AND ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

Occidental College invites applications for a tenure-track position, preferably at the Assistant Professor level, beginning Fall 2011 in the Urban and Environmental Policy (UEP) department. Applicants should be prepared to develop and teach courses in different aspects of the history of architecture, urban design, the built environment, urban planning, and land use. In addition, the applicants should be prepared to develop and teach courses in at least two of the following areas: urban history, housing policy and problems, "green" cities and sustainable development, transportation problems and policy and America's car culture,  environmental and public health, food systems, water and energy policy, community development, and research methods for policy analysis.

UEP is an interdisciplinary major that involves faculty in politics, sociology, economics, history, biology, geology, and other disciplines. We will consider candidates from a variety of disciplines, including urban planning, political science, sociology, environmental studies, public policy, economics, history, and law.

Occidental College is a nationally recognized liberal art college located in the dynamic urban setting of Los Angeles.
