Good Food Jobs is a gastro-job search tool, designed to link people looking for meaningful food work with the businesses that need their energy, enthusiasm, and intellect. We post opportunities with farmers and food artisans, policy makers and purveyors, retailers and restaurateurs, economists, ecologists, and more. Good Food Jobs will launch this summer.

the gastrognomes is a blog for food lovers who want to put their passions to work. We profile the most interesting, engaging, and unlikely food professionals that we find, and we publish them here to inspire you.

HAPPY MONDAY!
Sorry for the early email, but we're departing for the airport as we speak, and wanted to make sure our Monday newsletter arrived to your inbox safely.
We're still on the move, heading to VT for our second Northeast Campus Tour. Stay tuned for a recap of our adventures. In the meantime, we look forward to seeing everyone in the Green Mountain State.
As always in our travels, we're constantly looking for good spots to eat. If you know of any awesome VT gems that we need to visit, drop us a line.

EVENT RECAP
Terra Madre: USA REGIONAL MEETING
Few sessions at Terra Madre were as energizing, organized, and inspiring as the USA Regional Meeting. It made us particularly proud of the good food movement happening stateside.
Some words of wisdom from the session:
-
We should all aim to be like the Slow Food mascot: the Snail. Though seemingly slow, if you look at a snail's progress over the course of the day you'll be amazed at how much it's accomplished.
-
Slow Food is just the catalyst, you are the movement.
-
Remember: Love without power is like pleasure without responsibility.
-
Carlo Petrini, Founder of Slow Food told us, "Transformation is more important than the revolution."
-
Josh Viertel, President of Slow Food USA, reminded us of the strength of the good food community when he said, "It's not just about what you stand for, but who you stand with."
-
There's talk of another Slow Food Nation (aka the USA version of Terra Madre/Salone del Gusto) happening next year. Instead of seeing it as just another conference, consider it a chance to collaborate with hundreds of other like-minded folks. Instead of fancy dinners and hotels, they want a grassroots gathering: if you are interested in pitching in, hosting a dinner or a delegate, get ready to be involved.
-
And on a purely selfish note, we were excited to see that Josh Viertel, who spearheaded the USA Regional Meeting, happened to scribble his speech notes on the back of our Good Food Jobs flyer (see photo below). Even from the back of the room I could spot him waving around our bright red logo. Whether or not anyone else noticed it, we appreciated the endorsement.

. . . and next week, a recap of the Youth Food Movement.

With two successful books on the shelves, Sherri is still talking to everyone she can about the benefits of making an impact with your fork, and we’re listening. We can’t wait to get our hands on a copy of her latest: a modern guide to canning and preserving.
