Happy New Year!

We last spoke of adventures abroad, but the holiday blizzard left us stranded in NYC.  Not that we minded . . . it gave us the opportunity to marvel at all that New York City has to offer - incredible food, entertaining arts, and the time together to plot about Good Food Jobs in 2011 (all within walking distance of our apartments).

We also had ample time to reflect on the past 12 months.  When we set up an informal email newsletter in April 2010 - one that sent weekly good food jobs postings - and sent out word to a few hundred of our closest friends and colleagues, we thought there must be some other folks out there who felt the same way that we did.  We knew that we could reach people who wanted to work with food in a way that would make a difference.

By the time we launched the official website in October 2010, more than 4,000 people were signed up to read our weekly email, and three months later exactly 5,374 more had joined.  We've profiled 44 gastrognomes on our blog, posted 374 jobs, and had over 60,000 visits to our website.  It would seem as though our premonition was right - there are a few other folks who feel the same way we do. And we couldn't be more thankful for them.

But if 2010 was the year of building the physical site, 2011 will be the year of building the business.  We're looking forward to meeting more of you - listening, learning, and generating more ideas to get more good people working in good food jobs.

Here's to 2011!

Network, community, connections – call it what you will, but one of our favorite things about food is – naturally – the people.  We don’t think it’s a coincidence that Good Food Jobs leads us to some of our most delicious, inspiring acquaintances.  And we’ve found that those who take great pleasure in good food also love to share – which is doubly rewarding for us.  In David’s case, we’re hoping he’ll share a piece of the (apple) pie.  For anyone who isn’t that lucky, he was kind enough to share some of his own wisdom and recommendations.
