NICE THINGS PEOPLE SAY

FANTASTIC news! We just hired our second employee, and we found her through Good Food Jobs! She's going to be an excellent fit, and we can't wait for her to start in 2012. Thank you so much for all your help, you've truly made a difference in our company.

I am so impressed that in such a short time it seems like Good Food Jobs has become a go-to resource for food-focused workers.

As someone who has worked with food in various capacities all my life, I love the way you are bringing food and people together in your work!

We're so glad to be of service.

We'll admit it: we have a problem. You wouldn't expect it from us. But we are compulsive shoppers.

Hold on, though! It's not what you are thinking. While we'll eschew unnecessary clothing and can entertain ourselves mostly with food, we can never have enough books. Real books. Hard copy, share with friends, line them up to admire them on your bookshelf books.

We know the library is just as (if not more) useful, but there's something about being able to reference it later or lend it to a friend that makes us crave a copy of our own.

So this holiday season, if you absolutely must buy a present that someone can unwrap, consider a book. Everyone has interests, and nobody knows it all, so it just may be the gift that keeps on giving.

To help you on your quest, we have two suggestions:

  1. Check out this week's blog profile on Tamar Adler. You may just want to pick up a copy of her new book, An Everlasting Meal, for a lucky gift recipient, or to treat yourself.
  2. We have a new page on our website! Nested within the Education section of the site you can now find a 'Required Reading' page. Here we will update you with useful books in the realm of food culture. But as we populate it, don't be shy. Let us know about your favorite food books so that we can add them to the collection.

Cheers,
Taylor & Dorothy

THE GASTRO.GNOMES BLOG

Tamar Adler
Author & Cook

We believe that all of the gastrognomes that we profile, no matter how little we know them, or how coincidentally we came across them, wind up here in this collection for a reason. Tamar is here this week for those of you who dream of writing. She came to tell you that though your path may be circuitous, if food is your passion, you will find your way. We could all benefit, even those who rarely use a pen except to sign their names, from the reminder that writing is not easy, and it requires many, many drafts and a big dose of faith. Read More
