ISSUE NO. 464

THIS WEEK IS SPECIAL . . .

We set aside the time for picking two of our favorite freezable fruits: Morello dark sour cherries and blueberries. The freezer is necessary for two reasons:

1) it helps us extend the season. There is nothing like throwing a handful of frozen blueberries into piping hot steel cut oatmeal come winter, or having your mouth pucker from cherry pie when the world is cold and dark.

2) we can't help ourselves. When you are out in the field, it's nearly impossible to stop picking the gems in front of your face. They are calling out to you. We don't like to be greedy, but knowing that the opportunity comes but once a year...we feel justified in making the most of it.
