ISSUE NO. 660
WHAT BRINGS US TOGETHER . . .

across time and space is something that exists even when we take a month off from our weekly correspondence.

Our bond, as much as it relates to the literal bread and butter on the table we tap these words out on, is more than the food (and love of food) we share.

This connection is made up of shared values, which can sometimes feel like a not-very-compelling descriptor for things like: passion, desire, joy, dreams, life force, dedication, or needs.

Does 'need' seem incongruous with the rest of that list? We're including it because there are times when it's hard to center on what drives us, and all we can focus on is what we need more of, what needs to be different, what we need that we don't have and can't reach.

We think the 'need' is just as vital as the rest of it. Feeling lost or empty-handed or (have you heard enough of this word yet) overwhelmed is part of our connection, too. And as much as it would be nice to only have the fullness of knowing what is next and where we are headed, we need every part of the process to make the meal. We need the empty table before we can begin to put something together on it, before we can gather around, and make something happen.

As we come together again, in this space, after letting our minds wander through August, we're thinking of how you, our community, has always been part of the table at GFJ. We're grateful to come back, but the truth is we were always here, and so were you. However you've found us, we'll take you as you are - driven or exhausted, inspired or burnt out, in despair or full of hope. We hope you'll find something to eat here, and it will restore your energy for whatever you need next.

Happy September,

Tay + Dor
