Company description
We are a Marin County (Tomales) 160 acre, sustainable goat and sheep dairy (Toluma Farms), and creamery. Twenty minutes west of Petaluma, Tomales is a unique coastal community nestled above Marshall and the Tomales Bay estuary and is the gateway to Dillon Beach and Bodega Bay. We are Animal Welfare Approved and the land is certified organic.
Between the farm and creamery we are a team of 11 people (7 full time and 4 part-time). The average length of employment is 3 years. We are looking for someone willing to make a long-term commitment.
We have 200 goats, 80 sheep and 60 chickens. You can read more about our farm on our website (www.tolumafarms.com). We strongly believe that keeping local agriculture thriving is key for the health of our communities and the world. We have a strong commitment to education thus have school and other tours throughout the year as well as farm stays for people to understand what it takes to run a farm in a sustainable manner. Our cheeses have won Good Food Awards and are in many of the best restaurants and markets in the Bay Area. We also have a garden that provides greens to two restaurants in SF and sell our lambs each spring.
Internship description
Best Apprenticeship Ever!! January 15-July 15
We are seeking a 6 month apprentice to join our amazing team! This apprentice will have experience working on a farm with animals. We also have a farmstead creamery, making award winning goat and sheep cheeses.
Apprentice will work 40 - 50 hours a week working on the dairy

- Animal Husbandry
- Pasture Management
- Cleaning Barns
- Feeding
- Farmers Market
- Gardening
- Assisting with managing bees
- Assisting with managing garden (raised beds)
Everyone of our apprentices have gone on to have paid positions in the agriculture field. We take great pride in the education of each and every apprentice.
Northern CA has an amazing agriculture and food producer communtiy! There are workshops, courses, gatherings, celebrations almost weekly. We work closely with Marin Agriculture Land Trust, UC Ext, Farm Guild, NRCS and many other wonderful organizations. We are taking part in a Carbon Sequestration program that you will be involved with.
Housing is provided (beautiful 32' airstream). Eggs, cheese and all the food you can grow are available or this can be a live off position with higher stipend.
$600 monthly stipend. Will pay for various conferences/workshops. Two full days off in a row.
You must be a hard worker, kind, have a good sense of humor, get along really well with others, like things clean, enjoy living in the country, in good physical shape and love great food. We are looking for someone who wants a career in agriculture, preferably a dairy.
