Job description
Yellowbird Foods is looking for an experienced and highly-motivated salesperson to represent our brand in all foodservice channels including restaurants, cafeterias, and hospitality outlets. This candidate lives and breathes the values of the Yellowbird brand and has a deep knowledge, passion, and curiosity for meeting current and potential customers where they are. This person thrives on engaging with the foodie community, cultivating new Yellowbird customers and nurturing relationships with loyal consumers.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create and implement a foodservice sales strategy in close conjunction with retail sales and distribution strategy.
- Develop a list of potential foodservice customers and manage ongoing communications with these and current accounts on a monthly basis.
- Work directly with distributors, complete and follow through on new item forms, etc. to ensure that our brand has every available opportunity in foodservice.
- Manage and monitor sell–through data and reporting on a weekly basis.
- Develop effective foodservice sales strategies, including sustainable pricing promotions, and ensure timely and thorough implementation.
- Engage with and nurture the Yellowbird restaurant community online and in the field including staying in contact with buyers and decision makers, scheduling on–location promos, and connecting restaurants with our marketing and social media department, etc.
- Track and respond to complaints, inquiries, concerns, etc., and communicate these to internal team members.
- Develop and activate brand partnerships with foodservice outlets that are a fit with our brand.
- Manage the foodservice sales budget to ensure achievement of successful metrics.
- Assist with the build–out and successful execution of our Brand Ambassador Program as it relates to foodservice.
- Be the voice of the Yellowbird “fan” internally, to help shape ongoing brand & marketing initiatives.
- Be a proactive member of the Yellowbird sales and marketing team through collaboration and communication to build a smarter and stronger team.
PRIMARY SKILLS
Communication NECESSARY
Communication is an obvious and integral part of this and any sales job. The most important thing about this job will be finding decision-makers and staying in touch with them. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal communication skills, compassion, and charisma.
Organization NECESSARY
Communication with accounts will need to be organized and followed up on. Travel will need to be organized. Monthly, quarterly, and annual targets and budgets will need to be organized. The ideal candidate will have strong calendar-management and follow-up skills and will be able to find or develop the appropriate tools to optimize this position.
Behavioral Psychology DESIRED
Understand why certain people respond to different sales approaches and be able to meet them where they are. Chefs, for instance, think and make decisions very differently than corporate buyers. The foodservice sales manager must be a student of human behavior and be able to think through and react to both common and uncommon communication issues.
Analytics DESIRED
There will be plenty of sales data to analyze and a strong grasp of analytics will be helpful. Being able to sort through data and provide insights to the rest of the team will help keep Yellowbird ahead of the curve and give the candidate a strategic advantage in the field.
Budgeting NECESSARY
You will be allocated a budget to work with. Apart from sales travel, you might have to pay for things like a CRM tool, and customer samples. You don’t need to be an Excel expert, but you must have basic financial and budgeting knowledge.

Adaptability NECESSARY
Adaptability compliments curiosity. When you discover something new or spot a trend, you must be able to quickly adapt and keep up with such changes and pick up the necessary skills.

See the bigger picture and understand the role of foodservice sales in the company. Understand which types of accounts are most strategically important for our business and go after them using the most effective and efficient means.
Experience
• 2–3 years of relevant experience in a sales capacity preferably in consumer goods and / or foodservice space
• A BA/BS degree emphasizing communication or other relevant field
• Knowledge of major players in foodservice distribution
• Comfort with Google Suite
• Knowledge and focus on analytics and ROI
• Passionate about being around people and representing a brand you care about
• Creative thinker and exceptional communicator
• Initiative to drive change in a quickly evolving space
• Demonstrate ability to interact with all levels & areas of an organization
Compensation commensurate with experience includes base pay plus commission, health, dental, and vision benefits.
