Company description The Chattahoochee Nature Center, (CNC), is a non-profit in metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia.  Our mission is "to connect people to nature."  We have 127 acres along the Chattahoochee River and feature native plant gardens, a vegetable garden, trails, 3 ponds, aviaries and beaver habitat, and a wildlife rehabilitation clinic. We do extensive work in conservation. Job description The Chattahoochee Nature Center is looking for an individual to work in our 1/4 acre vegetable garden and our native plant gardens.  To summarize essentials of the job, this person: 
*performs all tasks essential to a veg garden: cultivating, planting, watering, harvesting
*works with the Manager of Horticulture to implement schedules for cover cropping, rotation of crops, fertilization and compost management 
*schedules and assists with transport of vegetables for donation 
*performs duties as greenhouse technician
*works with horticulture staff to propagate plants for garden and plant sales 
*develops a strong knowledge of weed, disease and pest ID
*has or develops skills with pruning woody shrubs and trees 
*maintains native plant gardens to highest level of care 
*operates machinery with ease:  lawn mower, weed-whacker, tractor, blower, chainsaw, tiller 
*works with and directs individual and group volunteers 
*assists with operations at the Chattahoochee Nature Center 

The skills/training/experience required for this job include a minimum of high school diploma and 2 years working in the field of horticulture.  Experience with food gardening is preferred.  Must have the desire and ability to plan and work as part of a team.  Must possess or obtain a Pesticide Applicators license. 

This job is physically demanding.  Carrying bags of soil, transferring mulch, planting and heavy lifting are all regular aspects of this job.  Work is primarily outdoors, therefore candidate must have the ability to work in all kinds of weather including summer extremes and winter extremes.
