Design Flora is the cut flower enterprise of Shekomeko Farms, where we grow over 200 varieties of unique flowers. Our flowers are grown using organic practices and are USDA certified organic through NOFA-NY. We are currently selling at Union Square Greenmarket on Wednesdays and Saturdays as well as locally, near Pine Plains, NY.

Job description

We are seeking a motivated and experienced flower farm manager that will be taking care of all aspects of the farm's flower production.

Responsibilities include:

Harvest and Sales:

- Weekly field walk to determine availability

- Harvest and test vase life of new crops in bloom

- Generate harvest list from orders + bouquet recipes

- Update weekly sales records from all channels

Production:

-Anticipate and address issues with plan health/maintain deadheading

- Pest Control

- Manage pinching of crops

- Manage/support trellising

- Weekly direct seeding

- Weekly schedule for seeding/harvesting

- Maintain transplanting schedule

- Label, dig and divide dahlias

Bouquet-Making/Marketer:

In charge of making bouquets for the 2 Green Markets and Big Rock

Attend Union square market- set-up, sales, pack up, interface with customers at market—knows the flowers and can discuss with customers vase life, growing techniques etc.).

Qualifications:

At least 2 years of experience in flower farm production
Floral design skills

Compensation:

55k per year + health insurance, will help with housing, food from Shekomeko Farms and paid vacation.
