Trees Atlanta is looking for an Urban Trees Coordinator to join our Urban Trees Crew. The Urban Trees Crew plants ball and burlap trees in urban spaces, right-of-ways, public parks, the Atlanta BeltLine, and in greenspaces around the City of Atlanta. The Urban Trees Coordinator will perform the following tasks:

 

  • Follow planting plans, designs, schedules, and instructions.
  • Operate heavy machinery, including a skid steer, safely and efficiently using OSHA safety standards for the purpose of planting ball and burlap trees and associated tasks.
  • Planting trees through the use of heavy machinery as wells as by hand utilizing tools.
  • Inspect plant material and trees upon arrival for any unacceptable disease or damage.
  • Make in the field decisions to protect trees and keep staff and the public safe by factoring in all site conditions and variables.
  • Perform safe and efficient daily field operations by leading a tree planting crew consisting of three -four staff members which includes keeping the crew on schedule, enforcing safety compliance, and training staff.
  • Performs field tasks to protect tree installations such as, but not limited to, laying mulch, straw, and/or seed, minor re-grading, removing old rootballs, staking trees, pruning, and watering.
  • Will perform other landscaping duties as needed including, but not limited to, light hardscape installation, flexipave installation around trees, rain cistern installation, equipment maintenance, planting native shrubs, grasses, and perennials, invasive removal, and tree pruning.

 

Requirements

  • 3 years of landscaping experience, including tree planting experience (ball and burlap trees) preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience operating heavy machinery
  • 1 year of crew management/supervision
  • Driver’s license in the State of Georgia with a 3-year safe driving history
  • Be able to pass both a drug and criminal background screening
  • Proven interest and passion for trees and/or urban ecology
  • Ability to lift 60lbs and work outdoors in inclement weather
  • Exceptional oral communication skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work as part of a team and promote positivity
  • Ability to prioritize among competing goals to execute on tight deadlines
  • Strong work ethic, initiative, and confidence
  • Savvy with online email, google calendar, or ability to learn.
  • Punctual and strong ability to follow and adjust a tree planting schedule/calendar
  • Monday – Friday 7am – 4pm availability.

 

This is a benefited position, which has a 90-day probationary period. Benefits include: partially paid health insurance, generous paid time off policy, and 403-B retirement savings plan.
