Job description
WOZUPI FARM CREW MEMBER POSITION
We are looking to hire seasonal farm laborers to work at a tribally-owned, certified Organic farm in Prior Lake, Minnesota. Applicants will work primarily in vegetable production, but may have opportunities to work in the orchard, greenhouse, or livestock enterprises (bee, poultry, etc.). Primary tasks in the vegetable fields fall into three categories: harvesting, planting, and weeding. Harvesting is done by hand, planting is done mostly by hand, and weeding (cultivating) is done with hand tools and machinery. There may be opportunities to drive tractors or skid loaders. The production farm is currently 2.5 acres, and focuses on meeting the needs of the tribal Community members and the Community’s food institutions. We run a small TSA program (Tribally Supported Agriculture), provide for the Community’s natural foods store and educational programs, represent at farmers markets, and sell to chefs at Mystic Lake casino restaurants. We pride ourselves on the quality of our products.
Applicants should expect to work hard and keep up a strong pace in all types of weather. We appreciate motivated people that work well with others, have a strong attention to detail, and enjoy challenging themselves to consistently deliver better results, and faster! Experience that demonstrates physical capability and mental fortitude is desirable. Farm experience is a plus but is not required. The position requires some flexibility in scheduling and occasional overtime, but mostly adheres to a regular work schedule at 40 hours per week. We try to keep the pace purposeful, not hectic. We can accommodate different start and end dates, but prefer to hire at least 1-2 people from late March or April through the end of October or mid-November, and supplement with shorter-season, summer-only, or part-time positions.
Pay is competitive and somewhat negotiable based on experience.
