Detailed Job Description

Work joyfully, independently and efficiently within approximately 20-25 hours per week.
    1. Create a hospitable, pleasant kitchen environment through attitude and demeanor.
    2. Cultivate, nurture and maintain healthy personal relationships with IFH residents.
    3. Share dinner and event meals as you are able.
    4. Invite residents to help with duties.
    5. Plan and work within a budget and strive to become more economical without sacrificing quality.
    6. Understand the goals and commitments of the IFH community, the IFH Handbook, and its policies in order to aid the Board and Resident Managers in facilitating healthy community.
  Prepare meals for 20-30 people Monday through Friday and for special events.
    1. Provide a nutritious, tasty, and satisfying dinner Monday-Friday. Creativity and diversity in the preparation of the meals that balances resident needs and preferences with cultivating a diverse and curious palate is welcomed and encouraged.
    2. Ready dinner meals by 5:50pm Monday through Friday.
    3. Clean cooking dishes at the end of each day.
    4. Submit menus 2 weeks in advance for the following 2 weeks.
    5. Obtain a weekly shopping list for necessary breakfast items from the breakfast cook.
    6. Shop weekly and as needed for dinner and breakfast food. (Must have appropriate and reliable transportation to complete the shopping (transportation will not be provided by the IFH). Compensation for gas will be provided.)
    7. Prepare meals for residents with dietary restrictions.
    8. Prepare party and holiday menus and meals approximately 5 times a year for large IFH events (50-100 people) and coordinate the service of these meals. This will include:
      1. Working closely with the Resident Managers, Executive Director and the Board of Directors to make decisions about the food aspect of IFH events.
      2. Assisting with budget projections for the menu and food service portion of the IFH events.
      3. Attendance of these events. Some will be required, and some we encourage you to attend as able.
    9. Shop as economically as possible (Costco, BJ’s, Market Basket, Trader Joe’s, Haymarket, CSAs, etc.) for all grocery items every week, and, as much as possible with attention to fresh, local and sustainable products.
  Manage the organization and maintenance of the main kitchen.
    1. Maintain a safe and sanitary environment for daily meal preparations.
    2. Communicate with the Resident Managers about repairs, new kitchen purchases and any kitchen maintenance needs (drain cleaning, etc.).
    3. Manage weekly, quarterly and annual dinner and breakfast food inventory.
    4. Organize and manage the kitchen space.
    5. Communicate concerns/expectations for kitchen cleanliness and maintenance with the Resident Managers.
    6. Manage the cleaning of the kitchen twice a year during our semi-annual cleaning days. (There will be residents who will help you to clean and organize the kitchen, but it is your responsibility to instruct them on what and how to complete the tasks, and to ensure that those tasks get completed.)
