The Corner Pantry - Hospitality Leadership Role - Assistant Manager - Service Manager
The Corner Pantry was opened in February of 2014 by Neill Howell, a British chef, and his wife Emily, a Baltimore native. Located in Lake Falls Village, just north of the Mt Washington, the modern British inspired cafe is centrally located for diners throughout Baltimore city and Baltimore county. It is also a destination for those who travel further for our British specialties. The Corner Pantry offers high quality, locally sourced cuisine in a casual setting 6 days a week for breakfast, lunch, and grab & go. Catering is offered in-house and on-site, for events both large and small, casual and formal.
About You
- One or more years of bakery/cafe/restaurant experience in a leadership role
- Ability to drive business through providing an elevated customer experience
- Excellent work ethic and dedication to the hospitality industry
- Strong communication and listening skills
Job Requirements
Operations
- Enforces company standards, policies, and procedures, including sanitation, safety, dress codes, and cash handling
- Demonstrates exceptional working knowledge of hospitality and service
- Addresses any needs within the cafe with creativity and positivity providing functional solutions
- Collaborate with General Manager in analyzing needs and recommending methods for improvements to contain/reduce costs and increase sales
- Communicates and addresses needs of service staff along with General Manager
- Comfortable using computers, Apple preferably as well as GoogleDocs
People & Development
- Supports service team and fosters a positive work environment through servant leadership and genuine kindness.
- Assists the General Manager in hiring, training, developing and evaluating employees.
- Leads service education through new service staff training programs, employee discussion and evaluations and daily evaluation of restaurant service performance
- Continuously incorporates on-shift training for service staff to ensure the development of their customer service skills
- Maintains accountability with service staff with all assigned tasks and responsibilities
Cafe Experience
- Creates positive impact through interactions with customers and team
- Actively anticipates and prevents customer issues before they arise.
- Frequently obtains customer and team feedback; effectively responds to and handles guest issues and complaints
- Possesses an understanding of high quality food and coffee and is excited to share that knowledge
- Maintains productive, positive energy throughout service
Daily Responsibilities
- Work on the floor during all shifts - 6-7 hours
- Assigning positions for each shift
- Assigning cash drawers
- Sending team on scheduled breaks
- Entering employee meals for breaks through Revel
- Discounting employee meals in Revel and close out
- Resolving any discrepancies in Revel
- Approving any discounts in Revel
- Covering breaks on any station; register, barista, expediter, runner, busser
- Troubleshooting/redirecting catering inquiries
- Managing retail counter & display - signage, cleanliness, cake stands, boards etc.
- Communicating with culinary team about specials and menu availability
- Acting as MOD in the absence of GM, Chef & Owners
- Additional tasks as assigned
- Administrative work - 1-2 hours
- Delegating & supporting consistent ordering and receiving of coffee, tea, paper goods and other supplies
- Ability to print menus, update website
- Updating checklists as needed
- Counting cash drawers at end of shift
- Splitting cash tips
- Sending handover notes at the end of every shift
- Communicating with GM regarding any HR issues, time clock corrections
- Additional tasks as assigned
Compensation
this position is: salaried, varies DOE, $35,000.00 - $45,000.00
