Sobremesa Farm was founded in 2013 with the idea of providing organically grown farm fresh fruit, vegetables, value added products and eggs directly to the local community via our on farm market. We decided upon a permaculture approach because of the flexibility, variability and regenerative models build into this growing system. We also wanted to create community connections through events, educational programs, farm to table gatherings and collaborations with other land and water conservation organizations.

Job description

Sobremesa Farm is seeking a farm manager to develop a new diversified polyculture/permaculture organic farm in Bloomington IN. This is a great opportunity for an experienced young farmer who is looking to holistically manage land, and build her/his experience in business development  The position entails managing the existing operations and assisting in developing additional site resources (small livestock, poultry, annual and perennial gardens/orchards, hoop house, greenhouse and more). The selected individual will also be instrumental in establishing a retail plant nursery. This could be a residential arrangement with the manager living on-site.  A portion of the compensation would be traded for bed and board. Weekly hours of work will range from 30-50 depending on seasonal circumstances. This position is part administrative and part farm labor. Minimum 1 year commitment.

The Farm Manager will work closely with the farm ownership, outside consultants and other hourly help to provide primary management and coordination of daily activities of the farm operation. This will include the operation of all small equipment, planting of vegetable crops, fertilizing, production management and harvesting. Additional activities will include the management of feed storage and handling facilities and routine maintenance of equipment.
