Shane Confectionery is sister-store to the Franklin Fountain located on Market Street in Old City and is America's oldest continuously operating candy store! The Franklin Fountain is Philadelphia's premier old-fashioned Ice Cream Parlor located in the heart of historic Old City, Philadelphia. We pride ourselves on our hand-made ice cream bases, toppings, baked good, soda syrups, bean-to-bar chocolate, bonbons, poured hard candy and a host of other confections. We are committed to sustainability, sourcing local, organic and/or fairly traded ingredients when possible as well as preserving and promoting historical methods, recipes and equipment. We strive to use environmentally friendly packaging, supplies and utensils whenever possible.
The Chocolate Maker assists the Head Chocolate Maker in all facets of the bean-to-bar chocolate production process in the Shane Confectionery Chocolate Works department, including processing cacao into finished chocolate, preparing finished bars and confectionery pieces, and packaging. Chocolate Makers will also be cross-trained to prepare drinking chocolates for customers in the Chocolate Cafe. Chocolate and/or confectionery experience is preferred, but not necessary. Candidates must be willing to work in an open kitchen, and to interface with the public regularly. Must be self-motivated, eager to learn, and able to lift 50 lbs.
The position is part-time to start, 2-3 days per week (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday availability preferred). Additional hours may be available for individuals willing to be cross-trained in other departments.'
