Kidding Intern Villa Villekulla Farm

  • Date Posted January 14, 2020
  • Location Tunbridge, VT
  • Category Agriculture / Culinary
  • Job type Full-Time
Company description Villa Villekulla Farm is a one woman (and ten-goat) operation nestled in the Upper Valley and committed to crafting the most unique and lovingly made goat dairy products out there. Animal health and happiness and land stewardship form the foundation of the wildly delicious raw milk, butter and skyr made by hand on premise. Internship description

Nestled in an idyllic and picturesque pocket of the Upper Valley, Villa Villekulla Farm was launched in 2019 with five French Alpine goats and a commitment to crafting the most unique and delicious goatsmilk products on the market. That all starts with the health and happiness of our tiny herd of working girls, who are rotationally grazed up the scrubby, herb-specked hill side and forest and milked twice a day by hand during our milking season.

Kidding for our group of girls will begin in mid-March and I am looking for someone gentle, reliable, patient and hardworking to help with preparations (setting up kidding pens) and assisting with all aspects of kidding, from attending births to 4x/day feeding, mucking pens and generally giving our future herd members the best and most attentive care possible to set them up for success. The internship is unpaid but room and board are provided. It will run for approximately two months with an option to extend into a part-time paid job if desired.

The ideal candidate is patient, responsible, attentive, and meticulous. Problem solving and an ability to take direction is essential. Experience living in cold rural places is not a requirement but definitely a plus! This is an incredibly immersive opportunity to be involved in all aspects of a microdairy as it comes online. The area is a vibrant community of young farmers doing interesting things. South Royalton is a 20 minute drive and has a great coffee shop, brewery and burger spot. White River Junction and Montpelier are both a 45 minute drive, and Dartmouth College is not much further. It's the perfect mix of quiet rural tranquility and opportunity for community engagement and recreation. Gorgeous natural beauty is everywhere - hiking, skiing, snow shoe-ing... everything! A little slice of paradise.

No smokers. References required. Must have own mode of transportation and be comfortable driving on ice and snow.

Compensation this position is : stipend / non-monetary compensation
Details: Room and board plus all meals and/or a small weekly food stipend is provided. Application instructions
