Company description Our diverse 175-acre farm includes 10 acres of certified organic vegetables and flowers, and certified organic pastured chickens, turkeys, and organically managed pork. We also grow some hay for our animals. Almost all of our vegetables are marketed through our FarmShare, our Community Supported Agriculture program. Our meats and eggs are marketed on farm and at the Troy Waterfront Farmers’ Market.  Our farm is committed to promoting sustainable agriculture through biodiversity and community education. We are in the process of getting the whole farm certified organic. Our farm team consists of Annie and Zack, the farm owners, as well as Aaron, our Vegetable Production Manager. Annie is responsible for Marketing as well as Flower Production, and Zack is the lead on Livestock and Grain/Hay Production.
 

 

Job description

Laughing Earth is seeking an Assistant Livestock Manager for the 2020 season, April through November. The ideal candidate would possess at least one season of experience with a small-to-mid-scale pasture-based livestock operation, a strong attention to detail, and an ability to learn on their feet. The Assistant Livestock Manager’s duties would consist of seasonal and weekly planning, as well as planning and execution of pasture rotations for meat chickens, egg chickens, pigs, cattle, turkeys, and sheep. The daily feeding, watering, and maintenance of these animal populations would fall in their purview, as well as assisting with the poultry slaughter, inventory of meat products, and sales at the farmers’ market. This individual would spend a good deal of time setting up fencing and monitoring the health of the animals (code for: good outdoors time!).
