Excellent opportunity for an experienced orchardist/ farm manager to focus on all aspects of 3 orchards containing mostly apples with some stone fruits and berries on a certified organic and biodynamic farm. This is a mostly autonomous position requiring a high level of motivation, organization, and flexibility.

The orchards are one part of a larger, diversified, multi-location farm operation in Sullivan County, NY that also includes vegetable, herbal, and livestock production. Seeking candidate with farm management experience in all areas. Thanksgiving Farm is owned and operated by the Center for Discovery, a large non-profit serving individuals with developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities include: winter pruning, implementation of IPM spray program as well as insect and disease scouting programs for all orchards, thinning, mowing, weeding, harvesting, grafting, determining fruit maturity and coordinating fruit harvest, and oversight of all post-harvest fruit processing and storage: fresh fruit, apple cider vinegar production, apple cider production, processing of applesauce, and fruit for dehydrating.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of three years’ experience working in orchards as well as working knowledge of organic orchard management. Management experience in all aspects of diversified farming operation is preferred. Beekeeping skills desirable. Strong organizational skills needed and able to function at a high level with minimal supervision. Must be a team player who is able and willing to take direction from supervisors. Bachelors degree in related field, but experience is most important. Clean, valid driver’s license. Computer proficiency a plus.
