Our mission is to advocate, celebrate and promote the art of fiction through our many public programs including fellowships for emerging writers, book groups, and events for readers of all ages. As part of our new space, we've opened a cafe and terrace bar where members of the community can grab a drink, talk to friends, read and write! Job description

The Center for Fiction is looking to hire a dynamic group of service people to bartend the café and bar in The Center for Fiction’s bookstore, as well as Pub Date, the Center's bar on the second floor. Across the street from BAM, the cafe features a curated selection of baked goods made in Brooklyn, as well as a small selection of seasonal craft cocktails, artisanal beer and cider, as well as natural wine. This is a fun work environment and our main requirements include an interest in cocktails, service, food as well as literature, and a willingness to develop and learn new skills. Barista experience a plus as there will from time to time be café hours to pick up, but not necessary. Having a food handler’s license coveted. Make drinks and friends, all the while surrounded by books. 

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bartending Experience
  • Customer service is fun
  • A desire to learn and grow with the project
  • Interest in craft and product knowledge
  • Must have one or ten favorite books
  • Table service a plus
Compensation this position is : hourly, varies DOE, $13.00 - $15.00 Application instructions
