We are looking for an instructor to lead classes, camps, and workshops; Instructor will take a lead in preparing for and adjusting already created lesson plans & leading them successfully at schools / community centers.
We pay a flat rate per class plus $19-20 hourly (doe) rates for any other opportunities.
Instructor will be a lead teacher for classes, each lasting between 1-3 hours with additional prep and clean up time (making most shifts 5-6 hours). We encourage the instructor to bring their own energy and ideas to all programs. Classes are extremely hands on and one of the instructor’s main responsibilities is to nurture creativity, curiosity, and student development while maintaining a safe environment.
Requirements: Our ideal candidate is energetic, knowledgeable, and passionate about bringing culinary education to students in the Greater Seattle Area.
We are looking for:
- Experience cooking, either at home or professionally
- Ability to learn quickly
- Necessary energy and attitude to work with groups of kids age K-12
- Proactive, independent problem solver
- Flexible, go-with-the-flow attitude (working with kids is full of unexpected challenges!)
- Ability to maintain appropriate relationships with students, including appropriate clothing, language, and a demeanor that fosters a learning environment
- Interest in and basic knowledge of nutritional concepts, the relationship between food and the environment, cooking skill/techniques, and the social impact of food (for more information see our curriculum page: https://www.seattlecucina.com/curriculum/)
- Must be able to pass a background check, complete a first aid certification and obtain a food handler’s permit
Responsibilities:
- Assisting with set up and clean up for classes
- Supporting lead teachers during classes by helping students learn and carry out tasks and assisting with class logistics
- Leading small groups through activities or parts of a recipe
- Providing input in the development and execution of educational programs
- Developing positive relationships with students and families
- Supporting our mission of expanding our programs to schools and organizations across the Greater Seattle Area
