Position:
Head Roaster and Director of Coffee
Summary:
Roast Master USA is seeking a new team member in the combined role of Head Roaster and Director of Coffee. We are a young and rapidly growing company and are looking for someone with an entrepreneurial mindset and a dedication to helping our partners produce top quality coffee via our roasting program.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Lead the Roast Master Coffee Program:
- Source top quality green coffees at the best price/value ratio to meet a wide range of partner needs.
- Develop profiles that highlight the best attributes for each coffee, tailored to meet our partner’s preferences.
- Assist the sales team in conveying the value of the Roast Master program to help bring in new partnerships.
- Continuously push our program forward, keeping us in league with the best roasters in the business.
Quality Assurance Program:
- Ensure coffee profiles are consistently reproduced every time, by every roaster in operation.
- Verify brewed quality by sampling, cupping and performing on-site tastings at all partner locations.
- Conduct periodic maintenance on all roasters to ensure operational performance.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting to our partners.
Partner Training:
- Help new partners develop their roasting program, which includes selecting green coffees, creating profiles, creating roast schedules, dialing-in brewing equipment and training staff.
- Provide ongoing support and training for partners to maximize the Roast Master program.
Research & Development:
- Provide input to help drive roaster hardware and software development forward. Strive to improve quality, consistency and ease-of-use for our partners.
- Help develop our partner portal and remote inventory management systems.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years in coffee roasting operations with experience as head or assistant roaster.
- 2+ years developing and implementing production roast profiles.
- 2+ years roasting green coffee samples, evaluating for quality, and assisting in purchase decisions.
- Experience with and knowledge of SCA cupping protocols.
- Experience with roasting software platforms such as Cropster.
- Some exposure to green coffee inventory management and demand planning.
- Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and taking instructions in the English language.
- Possessing basic computer skills.
- Competent in basic mathematics.
Education
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Food Safety Certification
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Be capable of lifting 150-lb. coffee bags utilizing team lift.
- Ability to constantly lift, bend, stretch, and stand.
- Valid U.S. driver's license.

Salary Range:
$45-60K
Work Location:
Work will be primarily at our head office in Mission Valley, San Diego, and at various partner locations in San Diego County.
Schedule:
Typically 9 AM-6 PM Monday-Friday with some variation to meet unique partner needs.

Compensation
