Job description
The Director of Operations is a newly expanded position in our organization. The position is responsible for all aspects of the safe and efficient running of our warehouse and pantry programs including food sourcing and procurement, inventory management, warehouse operations, and staff and volunteer management. The Director of Operations must be a mission-driven leader able to work with a diverse group of people in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. Open communication, creative resourcefulness, autonomous decision-making, and a keen eye for detail while holding the big picture in mind are key to the success of this role.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Food Sourcing
- Work closely with our Director or Programs and Food Recovery Manager to identify, develop, and maintain multiple channels of food sourcing, ensuring access to a variety of high quality, healthy foods including excess foods recovered from local food businesses.
Inventory Management
- Implement and maintain an inventory management system appropriate to the needs of BFN and train staff on its use.
Distribution
- Implement and maintain an ordering and distribution system (pick-ups and deliveries) for our partner agencies, mobile pantries, and on-site pantry.
This role is also responsible for:
Managing Warehouse Staff and Warehouse
- Manage warehouse associate(s), interns, and volunteers.
- Oversee warehouse maintenance and repair.
Managing Volunteers
- In collaboration with the Director of Programs and Food Recovery Program Manager, create volunteer job descriptions and schedules and provide volunteer oversight in partnership with appropriate staff.
Budgeting
- Work with the Executive Director to create and manage an operations budget.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate has experience working in an organization with a multi-program structure; building food inventory systems, including data management; large-scale sourcing of food and food recovery; hiring, training, and supervising warehouse employees.
They also demonstrate a commitment to mission, are organized and detail-oriented, take a collaborative approach to work, can work with diverse partners, and possess strong communication skills.
Compensation
this position is: salaried, $75,000 - $100,000
