Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Food & Farming Manager works to manage and operate the Food & Farming (F&F) Program. The F&F Manager works closely with the Food & Farming Outreach Coordinator, Food & Farming Marketing Coordinator, Communications Manager, Communications & Media Specialist, Membership Coordinator, Events Coordinator and Development Manager to fulfill program goals.
The Food & Farming Manager is responsible for managing the Food & Farming Program budget, outreach for the Eat Local First Campaign, Food & Farming annual events & publications, the Food To Bank On (FTBO) project, and other program deliverables.
Required skills & qualifications:

Eat Local First & related work
- Manage integrated campaign plan to advance Eat Local First business participation, awareness and increase the visibility of the campaign at grocers, restaurants, markets and with farms throughout Whatcom County and beyond.
- Work with Communications Manager to recognize opportunities for growth within campaign, outreach/advertising opportunities, and print and distribute collateral pieces.
- Meet with business members to gain a higher business uptake and engagement level within campaign
- Track campaign deliverables and document best practices
- Implement producer and buyer one-on-one consultations, farmer/chef mentorships and forward contracts
- Work with F&F Outreach Coordinator and Communications Manager to implement Community-Wide Harvest of the Month monthly campaigns, collateral, and business resources and toolkits
Food & Farming Events
- Oversee planning and execution of all Food & Farming program events including the Farm-to-Table Trade Meeting, Cascade Cuts, the Whatcom County Farm Tour, Eat Local Month, CSA Fair, chef tours, chef mixers, workshops and agritourism activities
- Exercise judgment to prioritize additional outreach opportunities and events within the program as they arise
- Work with community partners and cultivate local and regional partnerships within the food system where overlap makes sense, including serving on the Whatcom Food Network (WFN) planning committee
Other Program Deliverables
- Lead planning and execution of the Food & Farm Finder, Eat Drink Explore Tourism Map, Wholesale Producers Directory and CSA List with the Communications Manager, and Food & Farming Outreach & Marketing Coordinators. Compile content, oversee distribution, and outreach.
- Ensure website content & Eat Local First Facebook content is current and monthly program e-mails are sent
- Ensure annual F&F Program survey is administered
- Work with farmers and employers to share Workplace CSA opportunities
- Lead engagement for Eat Local First Food Atlas project as it grows
- Support with Cloud Mountain Farm Center (CMFC)/Sustainable Connections (SC) integration; and support other areas as needed
Cloud Mountain Farm Center
- Support farmer education efforts through the Incubator Program
- Coordinate with communications and F&F teams to identify opportunities for shared messaging and leveraging communications and community education
Program Administration
- Manage program budget
- Work with Development Manager to write and submit new grant application a well as ensure grant deliverables, reporting and deadlines are met
- Lead on Food & Farming program sponsorship as well as Farm Tour and Trade Meeting sponsors and assist with FTBO sponsorship outreach as needed. Ensure that current sponsors receive agreed upon recognition
- Report on monthly program accomplishments to the Board. Track and report on progress in meeting strategic plan goals in quarterly Board reports
- Meet with Executive Director for monthly check-ins and additionally as needed
Manage Food & Farming Team
- Supervise other Food & Farming program staff, including weekly check-ins, sign timesheets and cc reports, participate in review process
- Work with Membership Coordinator/WFN Coordinator in facilitating the Whatcom Food Network Steering and Planning Committee’s work, budget and events
- Support Outreach Coordinator in Food To Bank On project and facilitating business planning workshops, working with mentor farms, food bank coordination and sponsorship outreach, and in CMFC Incubator admin & education
- Support team with work on F&F newsletter, website, event outreach, FTBO, tracking data, and other tasks as needed
- Work with Food & Farming Marketing Coordinator in leading efforts for F&F publications and Eat Local Month, and facilitating support of Whatcom Farm-to-School marketing and community education efforts
- Work with CMFC Incubator Team in support of the program.
Compensation
this position is: salaried, $50,000 - $75,000
