ABOUT REAL FOOD FARM
Real Food Farm is a program of Civic Works, a non-profit organization in Baltimore City whose mission is to build a future for Baltimore’s youth through community service and skills development. Real Food Farm works toward a just and sustainable food system by improving neighborhood access to healthyfood, providing experience-based education, and developing an economically viable, environmentally responsible local agriculture sector. Real Food Farm is a production-focused farm that strives to offer high-quality education programs as an important facet of improving food access and engaging the Baltimore community.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Under supervision of the Projects Director, the Education Coordinator oversees the education program at Real Food Farm. The Education Coordinator is responsible for the success of the education program as a whole, as well as the quality and types of educational programming offered by Real Food Farm. As Real Food Farm continues to grow, the Education Coordinator will be the primary person responsible for solidifying the mission and defining the workof the education program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Guide overall direction, mission, and focus of Real Food Farm education program with farm staff.

Develop curriculum for all educational programs, including: high school internship, Farm Club, Farm Lab, field trips, and service learning. Where applicable, align curriculum with Maryland State Curriculum Standards.

Evaluation and improvement of all educational programs.

Hire, train, manage, and develop education staff, including a seasonal education assistant and education interns.

Register, schedule, staff, and ensure the successful delivery of service learning and field trips. Coordinate field trip and service learning schedule with production staff, especially Farm Manager.

Track education data that will be used in reporting to various stakeholders, including the Real Food Farm Advisory Board. Continue to develop system for data tracking.

Work with Development Director to find and secure grant funding for Real Food Farm’s education program, utilizing Project Director and Project Manager when necessary. Track and record fundraising efforts.

Manage education budget by updating frequently and meeting with Project Manager to ensure its accuracy.

Compose and send out quarterly education newsletter, update education-related portion of Real Food Farm website, and assist with reports for education deliverables of grant funding.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with surrounding community, including Baltimore City schools and youth organizations. Work to ensure that programming is accessible to a diversity of individuals and groups.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Bachelor’s degree in education, nutrition, agriculture, or a relatedfield. Master’s preferred.

At least 2 years experience in outdoor education, education program development, or a related field.

Experience working directly with youth of all ages from diverse backgrounds.

Ability to facilitate different types of programs such as an after school club, high school internship, field trips, and working with classroomteachers.

Experience in agriculture, nutrition, experiential education, and food justice.

Experience in program and budget management and supervision of at least one staff person and interns.

Employee must be and remain drug free.
COMPENSATION:
Salary: $30,000 - $35,000 depending on experience. As a full-time employee of Civic Works, a health benefits package is available. Two weeks vacation for the first year. The position will begin in August 2012 to be renewed dependent on funding after two years.
