Jessie’s Nutty Cups is a woman owned and operated confectionery business in Sunset Park Brooklyn. We make handcrafted peanut butter and almond butter cups in a variety of flavors which are sold online via our website and other online channels, as well as to specialty retailers nationwide including Murray's Cheese, Lolli & Pops and Whole Foods to name a few. All Nutty Cups are made by hand with our very own freshly ground peanut butter and belgian chocolate. We love to have fun with our flavors and carry 7 stock flavors with a different flavor of the month each month.
About the Role
Jessie's Nutty Cups is in search of a Kitchen and Shipping Assistant. We are looking for someone who can work efficiently and accurately under pressure with a strong attention to detail. A passion for chocolate, peanut butter and small business is a definite plus. You will be joining a small team in a shared kitchen space in Sunset Park with ample space for social distancing.
The Kitchen and Shipping Assistant is expected to take on the following essential roles and responsibilities:
- Packaging chocolate nutty cups appropriately and fulfilling orders in a timely manner, including:
- Packing gift boxes;
- Adding decorative bows, tissues and gift messages;
- Securely wrapping packages so nutty cups arrive intact;
- Taking into account temperature shipping requirements.
- Coordinating with distributors to pack and deliver full pallets;
- Helping track ingredients and shipping inventories;
- Maintaining a clean and organized work area, including cleaning the kitchen at the end of each day (to include dishwashing, equipment cleaning, and floor cleaning duties);
- Maintaining production logs;
- Ability to have fun and be just a bit Nutty with us.
Additional responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with specialty flavor development;
- Roasting peanuts to quality standards and grinding peanuts via Robot Coup;
- Using chocolate tempering machines (chocovision) to temper chocolate;
- Assembling cups with tempered chocolate, applying nut butter filling and adding any additional ingredients, depending on flavor;
- Properly storing and labeling finished chocolates and ingredients.
Position type: temporary-to-permanent, full-time, non-exempt
Position hours: 30-40 hours per week through January, hours may reduce seasonally thereafter
Position compensation: $16-18 per hour, with option to increase up to $20 per hour at the end of the 90 day introductory period
Position Location: Sunset Park, Brooklyn
Reports to: CEO
Job requirements
A strong candidate will have the following required prior experience, skills and dispositions:
- Inventory Management experience in a food service setting;
- Shipstation experience;
- Ability to tie ribbon into nice bows for gift boxes;
- Understanding of food safety and best practices for maintaining a clean and healthy kitchen/food preparation environment;
- Ability to organize time and tasks efficiently;
- Punctuality and great attendance;
- Ability to follow direction and recipes;
- Ability to work independently, efficiently and meet deadlines;
- Ability to be on your feet most of the day (up to 10 hours a day at times);
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
The ideal candidate will also have the following preferred prior experience skills and dispositions:
- Culinary training is a plus but not required;
- Food handlers license (if you don't have one, we'll pay for you to get it);
- Ability to drive or walk to/from work;
- An interest or background in chocolate, baking and/or cooking;
- Experience in a commercial kitchen setting, including the usage of large kitchen machinery.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
