April 15th-September 30th, 35hrs/week, roughly 7am-3pm with unpaid 1hr breaks.
By apprenticing at our farm you will get hands-on experience and training in all aspects of our operation including seed propagation, transplanting, direct-seeding, fertility management, cover cropping, crop rotation, irrigation, pest/disease control, harvesting, post-harvest, crop planning, marketing, and customer relations. You will also have opportunities to help with daily layer chicken and orchard chores to gain insight into farm diversification strategies for high desert growers. Regular lectures and relevant off-farm learning experiences will be readily available for those interested.
Our apprenticeship program is a great opportunity for someone who has had at least 6 months outdoor work experience and has demonstrated interested in diversified agriculture. This is a physically demanding and intense position that requires enthusiasm, open-mindedness and a positive attitude. Many of our former apprentices went on to paid positions with us the following year and some have even started their own farm!
This is a paid apprenticeship opportunity at $12.10/hour with access to veggies and eggs from the farm as well as comfortable housing on the property.
