We also design and install green roofs, gardens, and farms for clients ranging from private homes to corporate headquarters to low-income housing facilities.

Job description
Brooklyn Grange is seeking focused, hard-working individuals to help us run and oversee our Saturday farm stand in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, our Sunday farm stand in McGolrick Park, in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and/or our onsite weekend farm stands in Sunset Park, Brooklyn and Long Island City, NY.
The Market Leaders will report to the Produce Sales Manager, with additional oversight and support from the Farm Managers and Director of Farming Operations. The Market Leaders will be responsible for coordinating and executing all aspects of their respective weekly farmers’ market / farm stand -- from working with our Farm Managers to line up the market harvest, to setting up the market tables with a keen aesthetic eye, to coordinating staffing, delivery logistics, and oversight of the markets. Additionally, the Market Leaders will be responsible for working their weekly farm stands on Saturdays/Sundays and will help train market Farm Crew on all market protocols, best practices, sales strategies, and -- most importantly -- on representing Brooklyn Grange to our local community with respect, graciousness, and a love of vegetables. The Market Leaders will be the stewards of our farm stands from start to finish, and will be responsible for multiple moving pieces, which, when threaded together, make for a fun and successful market experience for all.
Our farm is a fast-paced environment where we strive for quality, efficiency, and respect. The Market Leaders should be personable, driven, excited by a challenge, and keen to learn more about the inner workings of our farm stands. Energetic, self-motivated and detail-oriented, the Market Leaders must have both a sales-oriented and a community-oriented sensibility. The Market Leaders must be able to work outside in all weather, lift heavy loads repeatedly, and spend long periods standing, bending over, reaching, etc. This position also provides the opportunity to spend part of your weekends in some of the city’s finest green spaces.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversee each market’s long term sustainability and success, from pre-market to post-market.

Establish clear and efficient systems for market-setup, produce delivery, staffing, sales, and recording of market sales & data. Document this information in our internal logs.

Represent Brooklyn Grange to the local community and be versed in speaking about our produce and also Brooklyn Grange’s other departments and services.

Be an ambassador for our local community to Brooklyn Grange.

Bring a genuine love for farmers markets and the produce and experiences we offer.

Work closely with the Produce Sales Manager & Farm Managers to put together weekly farm stand offerings that represent the bounty of Brooklyn Grange and the community’s interests.

Lead harvests for market crops. Ensure consistency and quality crops and proper storage techniques

Create inviting and aesthetically driven market tables that help drive sales.

Ensure freshness of produce throughout the market day and model best practices for quality and for creative sales to Market Crew.

Help our customers purchase our produce with government-assisted food programs and help increase access to our produce at our farm stands.

Curate and organize systems with the Produce Sales Manager for CSA member pick-ups and help foster active member participation in our CSA program.

Clearly and timely communicate with the Produce Sales Manager and Market Crew.

Undertake necessary manual work, including transporting produce and market materials, and setting up & breaking down farm stands.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

Can commit to long irregular hours (weekends and early mornings).

Has strong knowledge of vegetables and how you can use them in the kitchen.

Is adept at market table design and organization, and demonstrates product placement skills, creative thinking, & marketing skills.

Can respectfully mentor, develop, and oversee Market Crew and establish clear goals and objectives for the market team.

Can assertively and respectfully be the keeper of market rules as needed, both with crew and community members.

Has experience fostering relationships with CSA members and wholesale accounts.

Has the drive to actively work towards equitable food access models and outreach.

Follows health and safety protocols meticulously, and works with a safety-first approach.

Has a valid driver’s license, and preferably is an expert in driving a refrigerated van including loading and unloading proficiently.

Has strong written, oral, organizational, and communication skills.

Has strong knowledge of G Suite, with additional experience Microsoft Office Suite a plus.

Has strong knowledge of, or can quickly learn the mechanics of, government assistance food programs, SNAP, WIC, EBT cards, FMNP, and Health Bucks.

Is able to lift 50lbs repeatedly, and can squat, kneel, bend over, and reach for extended periods of time.

Can work outside in all weather.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
