Job description
Farmhouse Chocolates is looking for a creative, hard working individual to be second in command for production!
The position starts at $16/hour or higher, dependent on skill-set and experience, with scheduled pay raises every six months during your first year, and added benefits after a full year.
We’re looking for 18-24 hours a week for much of the year, and 24-30 hours a week from October through February. We can be flexible for the right team member, in terms of shift times and total hours; and those looking for more hours may find them by switching hats to help with packaging and order fulfillment. No weekend hours required, unless that is your preference.
What the Assistant Chocolatier will do (with training):
~Temper different percentages and origins of chocolate. Our chocolates, which do not contain any added emulsifiers (such as sunflower or soy lecithin), require a hands-on, manual approach, even with the machines we use.
~Work with tempered chocolate to mold chocolate bars and to enrobe confections (primarily truffles and caramels).
~Make truffles from scratch.
~Make several different types of caramels from scratch.
~Assist in bean to bar R & D with dedicated equipment.
~Collaborate in the creation of new products.
~General, miscellaneous cleaning and organizing duties, such as dishes, sweeping and mopping, which are shared by all.
What we look for:
~Prior knowledge of and/or experience in confectionary or pastry arts is preferred, but not absolutely essential. Having such experience in a professional setting is also preferred, but we may consider experienced home confectioners or those with limited professional experience. Whatever your knowledge base and skill set in this field (from basic to advanced), this could be a fantastic opportunity to expand your repertoire and build experience (or maybe even show us a few tricks!).
~Ability to spend the majority of a shift on one’s feet, engaging in repetitive movements.
~Focus and good humor. We are a small team and the attitude of one person can easily affect the group. We are looking for an individual who displays curiosity, non-judgment, and respect for themselves and for others.
~Honest and thoughtful communication.
~Find the Zen in efficiency and consistency.
~Critical thinking, flexibility and ability to prioritize. We're looking for a collaborator.
For the right individual, this is a position with a lot of growth potential in terms of skills, compensation, and responsibility!
