Kimchi Kooks was established in 2015 in Brooklyn, NY, for the purpose of making hand-crafted, small batch kimchi, created from quality ingredients, available directly to the consumer. In addition, we are committed to bringing awareness to the public about the lifestyle benefits of having kimchi as a part of your everyday diet.
Kimchi is something that Kate Kook has been making for nearly her entire life. Inspired by old world traditions, she has created contemporary expressions of the long heralded “super food” of Korea. Kimchi is a nutritious, natural, delicious, and affordable food, and Kimchi Kooks presents a healthy alternative to traditional ways of eating, and creates an easily accessible nutritious eating choice.
Kimchi Kooks has now opened Kate’s Kitchen in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, a shop where customers can purchase our handmade kimchi, freshly made banchan and yangnyeom, or order from our take-away menu of simple and delicious Korean food, all created by Kate Kook.
Job description
We are looking for an experienced, responsible and reliable staff member to join our team, to be an Assistant Shop Manager.
- You will be required to work weekly from Tuesday-Saturday from 12-7pm.

You will be responsible for managing an inventory of the ingredients and supplies in the kitchen and shop, as well as placing orders for restocking.

You will need to be able to help with organization tasks in the kitchen, and end-of-the-day clean-up.

During your shifts, you will be in charge of the shop’s front counter, taking orders, running the POS system, checking out customers, and packing take-away orders.

Other tasks will include: restocking shelves, helping to keep the front of the shop clean and tidy, and closing up the shop each day.

You will be required to speak with customers about our products, suggest items to try, and communicate about our dishes and ingredients.

This position will require the staff member to learn about our menu, Kimchi, and Korean food, in order to comfortably be able to speak to customers about what we offer, answer questions, and help them navigate our menu. This includes learning names and pronunciation of Korean ingredients and dishes. We will provide the necessary training for this aspect of the job.

Requirements:
- High School Diploma
- 2-3 years work experience (ideally in a food service or hospitality)
- We ask that you have a NYC Food Handlers Certificate, or are willing to obtain one
- Interested taking on this job for a year or more
- Can provide at least one prior work reference
- It is a plus if you have knowledge or experience with Korean food!

Compensation
