WE ARE SEEKING A ROAST MANAGER TO LEAD THE COFFEE PRODUCTION ARM OF HOPSCOTCH COFFEE

Hopscotch Coffee is a small batch coffee roaster and shop in Bloomington, IN that opened in 2014. We have 2 shop locations and supply other retail cafes, offices, and groceries. We seek a new staff member to manage our coffee roasting program.

Roasting and/or barista experience is a definite plus, as is a working knowledge of modern coffee trends. Moreso, the job requires strong organizational skills and the ability to direct other staff members. Some basic mechanical skills and ability to troubleshoot equipment are also necessary, but are trainable to a point. Availability to be generally reachable by text or phone call for questions is needed. Growth mindset and flexibility a must.

COFFEE DEVELOPMENT & ROASTER MANAGEMENT:

• Assessing green inventory, ordering, suggesting other green purchases via research and industry literature;
• Hosts staff cuppings and provides tasting notes for labels;
• Sets roast parameters in partnership with assistant roasters;
• Manages quality control of roasting and communicates with shop managers to maintain cup quality.
• Responsibilities include: using software to assess best beans and roasts.
• Performing routine roaster maintenance; maintaining a clean workspace; communicating large-scale maintenance needs and equipment requests as needed.

TEAM MANAGEMENT:

Manages team of assistant roasters (currently 2); hires assistants in partnership with CEO/shop manager; conducts regular performance reviews; sets weekly roast schedule according to shop and wholesale needs.

ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT:

Works with existing and potential wholesale clients for order invoicing and order fulfillment; manages coffee listings and orders on website (wordpress); provides sales data to CFO monthly.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:

Hopscotch’s roasting program has room for growth and as such we anticipate additional duties may arise, in line with the specifics listed above.

Compensation
