Job description
The Delivery Driver facilitates the flow of produce from farms to chefs and restaurants throughout the region. Our delivery route spans as far North as West Palm Beach to as far South as Key Largo. The Delivery Driver is responsible for effectively operating our vehicle while practicing safety standards. The Delivery Driver is held to a high level of accountability and punctuality in order to fulfill delivery routes and on-farm pick-ups. The Delivery Driver should be comfortable primarily working independently and be able to lift a minimum of 60 pounds. This position is fast paced and requires the navigation of a van or box truck between farms and restaurants in rural environments as well as in urban areas (think South Beach).
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The pay range for this position is $15 an hour. The Delivery Driver position requires an average of 30-40 hours per week. Due to the nature of our work, there may be some variation in hours and schedule, depending on the season.
Benefits include local and organic produce at wholesale prices.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Vehicle & Equipment Operation
- Comply with The Garden Network training, policies, and standards by driving lawfully and carefully at all times. Observe the legal load capacity of the vehicle, adjust vehicle speed when necessary, and modify routes as needed.
- Monitor all equipment for maintenance issues and communicate any vehicle and equipment issues to Operations Management promptly.
- Maintain vehicle supply levels including emergency and sanitation supplies.
- Complete end of day checklists.
Distribution & Pick-ups
- Build orders and load trucks to fulfill orders
- Develop relationships with staff at farms. Communicate any challenges and concerns, as well as feedback received from farm staff to Operations Management.
- Communicate effectively and provide excellent customer service.
- Follow delivery and pick up protocols relevant to each farm and customer.
- Ensure safe and proper product handling in accordance with The Garden Network’s Food Safety Plan. Quality standards should be verified for all incoming products.
- Ensure records are accurate by obtaining all necessary signatures and adjusting orders when necessary.
- Practice injury prevention by using safe lifting techniques.
Operations
- Assist with inventory management as needed.
- Unload farm pick-ups into coolers or appropriate storage.
- Load deliveries into van / box trucks.
- Follow all policies and procedures related to inventory management outlined in The Garden Network’s Food Safety Plan.
Other Duties as Assigned
- The Garden Network is a small business and assistance on additional projects or tasks may be required in addition to normal responsibilities.
REQUIRED
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- A current driver's license and clean driving record is required for insurance purposes and because safely driving company vehicles will be an aspect of your job duties in this role
- Basic iPhone competency and an understanding of Google Maps
- Must be willing to sign a Non-Compete and a Non-Disclosure Agreement
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience driving heavily loaded vans and box trucks in urban and rural environments
- Basic vehicle maintenance
- Knowledge of local fruit and vegetable varieties
- Food Handling Experience
- Customer Service Experience
- Sales Experience a plus
- Navigation skills
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
