We are a family farm located in Long Valley, New Jersey. Long Valley is nestled in a scenic area of Morris County, conveniently located in close proximity to New York City. We farm 400 acres of land in Morris County and work through all four seasons to give our customers fresh fruit and vegetables, blooming annuals and perennials, delicious baked goods, giant pumpkins and family fun in our corn maze, and handmade holiday decorations.

Job description
Ort Farms is a 500 acre diverse fruit and vegetable farm. We have a retail farm market and agritourism operation that is open from March-December annually. We are a 5 generation family business offering a unique opportunity for any motivated farmer to join our team. Experience a fun and fast paced environment.
Position Details:
Salary range $50,000- $70,000 (based on experience)

Field Production Manager
Reports to: Field Operation Manager
- Responsible for inspection/maintenance of crops and reporting status/problems to the Field Operation Manager
- Responsible for development of resolution/continuous improvement of field problems and reporting to the Field Operations Manager.
- Responsible for planning, cultivation and harvesting of crops. This includes fruit, vegetables, grain and pumpkins. Develop planting schedule and seedling plantings with Field Operation Manager.
- Responsible for the management and implementation of a crop protection program and creating spray schedules
- Responsible for Planting/Picking quantity and schedule in collaboration with the Field Operation Manager.
- Responsible for the generation and distribution of daily/weekly activity list and accomplishment reports including but not limited to picking schedule, herbicide application, insecticide application, water use log, etc. Reports will be distributed to BOM and Admin for development of a master annual schedule. All information should be documented in the field operation log.
- Responsible for the generation and development of a report for crop specifications (spacing, fertilizer requirements, planting time, plastic requirements, spray timing/formula, irrigation, yields and population (number of plants/seeds per acre). Documentation should go to the Field Operation Manager and distributed to BOM via the field operation log.
- Responsible for daily supervision of field personnel.
- Responsible for education, training, and continuous improvement of field personnel
- Responsible for the research and recommendation of field needs, this includes the following expenses, capital expenditures and personnel requirements (equipment, supplies, seeds, fertilizer, herbicide, insecticide, etc.) to the BOM.
- Responsible for providing input on large equipment purchases based on an allocated budget, in collaboration with the Field Operation Manager.
- Responsible for maintenance and repair of farm equipment
- Responsible for scheduling repair and sourcing parts for farm equipment repairs.
- Responsible for cleanliness and organization of farm equipment, supplies, materials, etc.
- Responsible for working with the Farm Operation Manager for daily field picking list.
- Responsibility for daily communication of produce availability to Field Operations Manager
Minimum Requirements:

- High school diploma
- Must obtain NJ Pesticide Applicator license if not already in possession.
- At least 2 years of experience on a fruit and vegetable farm preferred
- Flexibility with schedule and ability to work at least one weekend day per week
- Available 40-50 hours per week, on average. Salaried pay would be based on a comp time system, winter hours would be less than 40 and height of season hours would be around 50-60 hours, with November/ December being less
Compensation
this position is: salaried, $50,000 - $75,000
