Reconnect NYC is a 501c3 non-profit, which engages and empowers young people, from ages18-25, through job training and life skills development. We are launching a new culinary initiative and seeking a Head Chef at Thomas Berry Place, Jamaica, NY, a 50 room Retreat and event space.
Reconnect NYC is seeking a Head Chef for this exciting and creative new initiative. The Head Chef will join a small dynamic team of leaders dedicated to improving the lives of young adults. The chef will provide meal services for visitors and residents at Thomas Berry Place and oversee the culinary training of young people in our new culinary initiative. The successful candidate will have significant experience in the food service industry and be a mission driven person who can collaborate with other team members in the work of human development while providing impeccable hospitality. An entrepreneurial spirit and a deep desire to improve the lives of our young people is essential.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and direct food preparation and all culinary activities
- Create new exciting, healthy menus using our outdoor garden.
- Provide training to trainees in culinary skill and techniques
- Estimate food requirements and costs and oversee procurement.
- Supervise kitchen staff activities
- Arrange for equipment purchase and repairs
- and manage kitchen staff
- Rectify arising culinary related problems and complaints
- Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards
- Manage time and payroll records for kitchen staff and trainees
- Keep up with cooking trends and best practices
Qualifications:
- Proven working experience as a Head Chef
- Excellent record of kitchen management
- Ability to spot and resolve problems efficiently
- Ability to remain calm and courteous under pressure.
- Capable to delegate tasks and responsibilities
- Communication and leadership skills
Compensation
this position is: salaried, $75,000 - $100,000
