Common Good City Farm is a nonprofit organization founded in 2007 and has a mission to create a vibrant, informed, and well-nourished community through urban farming. Common Good’s half-acre farm in DC’s LeDroit Park is the principal site for programs providing hands-on training in food production, healthy eating, and environmental sustainability to people of all ages and backgrounds.
Job description
This position is 50% time (approx. 20 hours per week), salaried, with the possibility for future expansion of the role. The salary range for this position is $20,000 to $22,500 with paid vacation and sick leave and employer contributions to an individual retirement account.
This role is being created to support the expansion of our Certificate Program in Regenerative Urban Agriculture. It is one of the first certificate programs of its kind focusing on small-space growing, regenerative techniques, carbon sequestration, and climate resilience. Job responsibilities of the Farm Educator, under the direction of the Farm Manager and executed with support and assistance of Common Good staff and volunteers, include:
Program Execution and Management

Deliver instruction for two cohorts of the Certificate Program, under the guidance of the Farm Manager

Assist with recruiting and selecting students for the program

Obtain and manage data as appropriate for evaluation and in accordance with grant agreements

Serve as a resource for students and staff who may have additional questions about regenerative agriculture
Youth Internship Program

Hire, Teach, and Manage approximately 15 high-school serving in an internship capacity February-June

Modify the Certificate Program Curriculum as appropriate to meet the needs of the school calendar

Supervise youth who may continue their internship experience throughout the summer

Meet any reporting requirements imposed by DCPS or the State Superintendent for Education (OSSE)
Organizational Support

Be a welcoming presence to youth and adult community residents, promoting active and broad participation by volunteers, program participants, and other stakeholders in a manner that supports relationship building between the farm and the community

Assist with preparation of farm reports for Board meetings and grant reporting
- Represent Common Good City Farm at community meetings, events, and other outreach efforts
- Cultivate and maintain relationships within the urban agriculture and local food systems communities
Pay is $21 / hour, not to exceed 1,040 hours per year.
