We sell our flowers at a farmer’s market, to florists, at local grocery stores, and for weddings. We are looking for a new person to join the Sea Change family! This person will have dual roles as both a farm crew member and as our farmer’s market staff.
At the farm, you’ll help out with field tasks like starting seeds, transplanting seedlings, weeding, building no-till beds, and harvesting flowers (the dreamiest task!); you’ll also help with arranging market bouquets and wedding flower arrangements. Previous experience with floral arranging or another art form is a great bonus for us, but we will teach you the basics either way.
The other part of your job will be managing our booth at the Hastings-on-Hudson farmers' market. At the farmer's market, you will be responsible for setting up and breaking down the booth, taking payments, wrapping bouquets, and arranging custom bouquets for customers. You will also be responsible for driving the flowers from our farm to the Hastings-on-Hudson farmer’s market on Saturday morning, in our vehicle or yours, details TBD. The farmers market we attend is a wonderful market with loyal "regulars", a friendly group of vendors, and very tasty market snacks.
We will train you on all of these tasks and teach you about the flowers we grow.
Schedule
This is a part-time position starting in April 2022 and continuing through November 2022. This is a 3 day per week position:
– Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays 8am-2pm
– Fridays 8am – 2pm
– Saturdays 5:45am – 3pm
We are looking for somebody who:
- Is committed to joining us for the entire 2022 season
- Has prior farming or floral experience (preferred)
- Has a valid driver’s license
*bonus if you are willing/able to run deliveries in your own vehicle
- Enjoys waking up early, is punctual and reliable
- Enjoys flowers and working outside
- Is comfortable performing strenuous physical work
- Is responsible handling money
- Has great communication skills and enjoys talking with new people
- Takes direction well and is an eager learner
Compensation: $15+/hour, depending on experience, plus flowers to take home. This position also includes 3 days of paid time off, plus additional unpaid days off as-needed (within reason and with advance notice).
