The Farm at Doe Run, a bucolic dairy farm in the rolling hills of Chester County, Pennsylvania, seeks a Cheesemaker Assistant to support the expansion of a successful cheese making operation. The dairy consists of 200+ acres of sweet grass and clover pastures set within a 600+ acre estate. Our award-winning, small batch cheeses are made from the rich milk from our herd of approximately 50 Jersey and Normande grass-fed cows, as well as, from seasonal milking goats and sheep. Facilities include two large, recently renovated bank barns, a modern dairy with 12 milking stalls, and a fully equipped, ten- year-old creamery that sits atop three subterranean cheese caves.
Job description
This position is an educational opportunity for an entry level applicant looking to expand their knowledge and skills of cheesemaking with an award-winning team. Applicants must have a strong interest in learning, flexibility, and impeccable food safety standards. Duties are assisting on all aspects of cheese making, including production, frequent cleaning, and food safety regulations. In addition, they will assist with affinage work as needed in the caves, and receive sensory evaluation and quality control training. This is a cheesemaking based job that offers a chance to learn about all aspects of the artisan cheese making process. Applicants from all backgrounds are welcome, a desire to learn and a passion for cheese are the steppingstone to growing into an Assistant Cheesemaker. With a goal to make some of the world’s best cheeses, our cheesemakers have considerable freedom to experiment and make new creations.
