Lead Instructor The Kids' Table

We've been cooking in person with Chicagoland kids and families for 14 years, and now also have the privilege of cooking virtually with folks all over the US and beyond!

Getting kids in the kitchen measuring, mixing, chopping, touching, smelling and tasting is hands-down the best way to get kids loving real food.  
Job description SUMMARY: Lead Instructors run all our cooking classes, camps and parties - both in-person and virtually. You would get to bring your personality, your passions, your fun facts and your unique skills to the table, all to bring the recipes to life and create a fun, engaging, educational and delicious experience for our kids and families.

Part time position available immediately, with multiple full-time opportunities opening up by this summer. We currently are in need of someone to assist with evening programming and weekend parties / classes. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Create procedures for both in-person and virtual cooking programs
  • Prep and set up for programs
  • Instruct all programs with proper techniques, age-appropriate, engaging dialogue and relevant food facts
  • Support other Lead Instructors as needed in back-of-house 
  • Ensure food sanitation and safety standards are being followed at all times, including awareness and accommodation of allergies
  • Ensure proper timing and flow of programs
  • Maintain food quality
  • Maintain a peaceful and fun learning environment using positive discipline techniques
  • Ensure cleanliness of the kitchen and classrooms before, during and after programs
  • Assist with dishes, laundry, and waste disposal throughout the day, as well as end of day closing procedures and periodic deep cleaning tasks
  • Give direction to Class Assistants so they can provide the needed support
  • Bring the positive energy and collaborative spirit to work every day 

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Formal culinary training welcome, but not required
  • Professional culinary experience welcome; extensive home cooking experience required
  • Experience working with children is preferred; strong comfort level interacting with children is required.
  • Certificates, licenses and trainings required: ServSafe Food Handler Certificate (can be obtained upon hire), completion of Mandated Reporter training, and any other required Certifications or trainings as needed
  • Ability to work in teams and communicate clearly with managers and other team members
  • Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure
  • Ability to stand and exert fast-paced mobility for entire shift
  • Strong belief that learning and growth are keys to personal and professional success, and willingness and ability to share with and teach others
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Passion for The Kids’ Table mission, pride in doing good work, positive attitude, and belief that customer satisfaction comes first
Compensation this position is : hourly, $15-20/hr Application instructions
