Company description
In Italian, a Sagra is “a local festival and feast to bring in the harvest - a celebration of nature, of earth and its bounty.”
Sagra is a hospitality company whose mission is to connect people with sustainable farms and regenerative land management. Sagra invites guests to stay overnight on a beautiful property, learn about regenerative practices, and savor delicious meals with ingredients fresh from the farm and surrounding foodshed. Through building and operating hospitality experiences, including lodging and dining, Sagra deepens our connections to our food, the land, and each other. Each stay on a Sagra property directly contributes to the land management practices, supporting another season of farming, feeding the community, and improving the health of the land.
Our love for the land, food, and its people is at the heart of Sagra. Our ability to grow as a hospitality company is rooted in the strength and diversity of our team. In bringing together individuals with varied pasts, backgrounds, perspectives, and talents we believe we can learn from one another, build upon cumulative ideas, and translate these into unforgettable experiences for our guests. Sagra is about coming together as a community to show how we respect and care for our land, for our farms, and for each other. We look forward to building this community with you.
Job description
About the Role
Beginning in Spring 2022, Sagra will take over management of a boutique hotel and restaurant in Southern Vermont, shaping and executing the entire guest experience, including development and management of the agricultural program.
To embrace the agricultural heritage of the site and region, Sagra will be starting a market garden this season. The market garden will be the hearth of the inn, providing diverse, seasonal produce for the restaurant and farmstand and a space for guests and the community to gather and learn.
Sagra is seeking an experienced and engaging Market Garden Manager to develop and oversee the market garden program, including diversified, intensive garden production on 1/2 acre and its integration with the restaurant and guest experience. Responsibilities include: year-round vegetable, herb, flower, and small fruit production on the property’s agricultural acreage using sustainable practices; oversight, operations, and maintenance of agricultural systems, infrastructure, and farm equipment; detailed crop planning, budget planning, and record keeping; training and oversight of any additional needed market garden staff; close collaboration with restaurant and hospitality teams to develop and fulfill seasonal ingredient schedule; and the creation and leading of interactive garden programming for guests in a hospitable and educative manner. In the off-season, the role will expand to include supporting the Property Manager with landscaping and maintenance projects.
This person will work collaboratively across the Sagra organization to execute this role.
