We run two garden centers, educational programming, food access programs and other projects resulting in permanent jobs and sustainable income. A small, dedicated staff runs our multi-faceted organization.

Greensgrow is building our garden center team for the upcoming season kicking off in March. The right candidate should enjoy working with plants, be energetic, proactive, and outgoing. This position is ideal for someone with at least two years of supervisory and retail management experience, thrives in a dynamic and creative environment and is committed to carry out the values of Greensgrow Farms in all tasks – sustainability, urban greening, best use of land and space within the farm, community, and teamwork.
This is a full-time position managing one of our retail garden centers throughout the 2022 season. The retail manager is responsible for ensuring the look and feel of the garden center is top notch at all times and meets sales and cost goals. The manager motivates the retail team to provide knowledgeable, friendly service for a great customer experience. Inventory, merchandising, sales, staff training and scheduling are key responsibilities. Supervisory, inventory management, and retail sales experience required.
We are a small team and everyone does a little bit of everything. We keep our customers informed and cared for, the animals happy and healthy, the plants watered, weeded, fed and placed in the right location. As Greensgrow is a working farm, employees are expected to occassionally help as needed with tasks outside their formal job description, including minor repairs, setting up community-based workshops, and giving tours.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Building/Managing a retail team including hiring, firing, training, scheduling, motivating, and evaluating
- Responsible for life cycle and sale-ability of all (non-food) merchandise on the property
- Meeting sales goals and managing to budget
- Accountable for inventory management including coordinating purchasing and delivery with other retail manager, maintaining accurate coding in POS, documenting unsold inventory and inventory reporting
- Ensuring all assets are cared for and properly stored and the retail space is clean, well maintained, and a safe place to work for its employees
- Ensuring daily plant care and coordinating animal care with Farm Manager
- Communicating easily with colleagues at both sites to develop an effective, unified management team and ensure operational needs are met
- Working as a member of the farm’s general labor force as needed, when coverage is needed for farm stand, garden center sales, or special events
Qualifications:
- Great communication and people skills and ability to maintain positive relationships in the neighborhood
- Inventory management and sales management experience
- Proficiency in Point of Sale (POS) systems and Excel
- Creativity and attention to detail in the merchandising space
- Must possess a proactive nature and the ability to take initiative
- Must be able to lift, push or pull at least 50 lb. on a regular basis
- Must be able to work flexible hours
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
