Bellwether Farm Camp, Retreat, and Education Center, which is a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio, offers a model for sustainable living that promotes physical and spiritual wellness, fidelity to the environment, and social justice by incorporating farming, food production, and environmental stewardship into land-based educational programs for people of all ages and backgrounds.
The 137-acre property in Wakeman, Ohio supports a residential summer camp program for up to 100 campers per session, retreats for individuals and groups up to 80 people, school field trips, classes, workshops, seasonal community events, and a 7 acre organic produce farm. The Diocese is also partnering with various organizations in Northern Ohio to provide innovative programs that serve targeted populations, including economically disadvantaged children and families.
Job description
The Resident Farmer will be responsible for all matters related to farm operations at Bellwether Farm. This includes crop production using sustainable, regenerative agriculture practices, working with the program staff to develop an agricultural curriculum for both adults and youth, and coordinating crop production with the Chef to support menu planning, food preservation, and the teaching kitchen. The Resident Farmer will also engage with the center’s administration to develop and institute land management practices on the farm that meet the highest standards of environmental stewardship.
Compensation includes salary, benefits, and residence for a family of 4 in a new energy efficient home.
