Position Summary
GrowNYC is expanding its Development Team and is hiring a full time Grant Writer. Reporting to the Director of Development (DOD), the successful candidate will work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment helping expand food access, green our urban landscape, and nurture the next generation of environmental stewards. This is an opportunity to manage a portfolio of new and existing private foundation and government funders that support GrowNYC’s general operations and aforementioned program areas. Through your work with GrowNYC, you will have a positive impact on the environment and the lives of low-income New Yorkers.
Grant Writer Responsibilities:
- Lead the preparation of letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and narrative reports for a variety of funders – tailoring your writing to suit major institutional foundations, the USDA, and other government agencies, small family foundations, and, in some instances, individual donors.
- Analyze request for proposals (RFP), prepare written RFP summaries for program staff, and lead meetings to discuss RFPs under consideration.
- Perform prospect research to support existing GrowNYC programs and create or update funder profiles and briefing materials, as necessary.
- Identify new prospective institutional donors and develop strategies to approach those donors.
- Cultivate and steward relationships with funders.
- Prepare project management structures to allow all stakeholders to provide information, and coordinate writing, draft review, approval, and grant submission.
- Provide a clear framework for grant reporting and ensure relevant staff are aware of data required, outlined deliverables, and reporting deadlines.
- Plan and manage site visits for prospective and existing funders.
- Prepare materials in the institutional voice and provide boilerplate language to streamline how GrowNYC describes its programs to grant makers using culturally competent language that reflects the communities we serve.
- Collaborate with DOD and finance staff to project likely revenue from all donors in portfolio.
- Document all solicitations and gifts in the Raiser’s Edge Database and using other departmental procedures.
- Occasionally support with special events.
- Complete additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support the team and GrowNYC as a whole.
Ideal Qualifications
We know not everyone has each qualification, so if you think you would be a good fit, we encourage you to apply!
