Position: Lodge Cook for Maine Wilderness Lodges

Location: Gorman Chairback Lodge, Little Lyford Lodge, or Medawisla Wilderness Lodge (click links to learn more!)

Position Dates: It’s never too late to escape to the woods…NOW HIRING for the 2022 Summer season! Cooks needed for May 9, 2022 through October 22, 2022 at Gorman Chairback, Little Lyford, & Medawisla Wilderness Lodges.

Rate of pay: $15/hr

Beyond Maine’s bustling seaports and crowded resort towns lies an untarnished wilderness full of mountain landscapes. Nestled here, in the 100 Mile Wilderness, sit three off the grid Wilderness Lodges owned and operated by the Appalachian Mountain Club. Enjoy endless summer outdoor recreation activities while living and working remotely. Provide warm, well-rounded meals and hospitality to guests vacationing at one location or adventuring between lodges. This full time, seasonal position has a consistent schedule. There is multi-season opportunity with on-site housing and meals provided. Opportunities for alternative work assignments during out off-season periods may be available.

We are closely monitoring COVID-19 developments. To ensure a safe and successful season for both staff and guests, we will continue to operate with numerous updated cleaning and operating procedures that meets or exceed CDC, state, and local guidelines.

Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Work independently to prepare pre-set menu items for breakfast and dinner service at a busy winter lodging destination
• Ability to lift 50 lbs
• Bake fresh bread daily for trail lunch sandwiches and dinner service. Perfect your hand at sweet treats while keeping the cookie jar full and preparing nightly desserts
• Provide alternatives for guests with dietary restrictions.
• Meet Maine Health Codes and Standards by always maintaining a clean and organized kitchen, dry-storage, refrigerator, and freezers. Meet updated cleaning and PPE requirements related to COVID-19
• Implement energy conservation and environmentally sound practices in daily operations

Qualifications & Experience: Must be 18 years of age or older. Enthusiasm for living communally and sharing a wilderness environment is a must! The ideal candidate will also have prior meal planning, preparation, and cooking experience, exceptional customer service skills and an outgoing, friendly attitude.

Staff will be required to show proof that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. The AMC will consider an exemption from the vaccine requirement if they are unable to get vaccinated due to a qualifying medical disability or a sincerely held religious objection. An accommodation or exemption from the vaccine requirement will be considered if one is available that would not pose a direct threat to others in the workplace and would not create an undue hardship for the organization.

The Appalachian Mountain Club has zero tolerance for child abuse or placing children in danger.
