We have an intentional biodynamic/ organic micro Diary Goat farm. We are located in the beautiful Berkshire mountains of western Massachusetts. We milk 8 Nubian dairy goats, raise sheep and goats for meat, vegetables, flowers, pasture raised chicken and eggs. Our land is graced with fruit trees, raspberries, hazel nuts, currants, flowering trees. shrubs and perennial flower garden. We make our own compost to fill our Hight Tunnel and supplement the outside gardens. We practice No-till, permaculture land management. We sell our products from the farm and at farmer markets.We are located close to the AT hiking trails, rivers and waterfalls. State Parks with lakes. Historic museums and Theaters. Norman Rockwell museum, Chester Museum, Mass MOCA museum, Music festivals, down Hill Skiing. Cross country skiing, Kripalu Yoga and educational retreat center and Tanglewood., Close to Great Barrington MA, Canaan, Ct and NY State. 30 minute drive to train station. 3 hour car drive or bus to Boston.Projects include assist with milking goats, feeding baby goats, animal husbandry, making cheese, bottle raw milk, moving chickens, feeding and watering laying chickens, collecting eggs, weeding, planting, transplanting, seeding ,watering, mulching, cleaning barns, assist with moving animals in pasture, setting up portable fencing and take down of portable fencing. Job description
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual that has a strong interest to learn all aspects of a small diverse farm. Partnership highly encouraged.
But not necessary. Concentration with the Dairy Goats but willing to work with the other aspects of the farm where the help is needed. Our Dairy is seasonal March - Oct. You must be physically capable to lift 50 lb. and work at least 5 hours per day, 5 days a week. Learn to take responsibility for Animal Husbandry and the gardens.
We currently milk the goats 2 times per day. Depending on Raw milk shares we will switch over to once a day. Clean up, bottle raw milk, make cheese,
Feed and care for kid goats
Assist with kidding and lambing
Set up barns for lambing and kidding
Hoof trimming, health inspection
Spring -move animals to pasture.
Set up for rotational grazing
Load animals on to trailer
Move animals every 5-7 days
Set up brooder for chicks, care for chicks.
Move chickens 2x a day.
Care for laying chickens, collect eggs, wash and box
Help with harvest, wash and pack for farmer market
Clean barns
Manage High tunnel and Cut Flower garden. Vegetables, perennials and Fruit trees. Weeding, watering, transplanting and planting. Learn to develop a crop production schedule.
