Company description
VT Pierogi is a queer, woman led company built to support the Birdhous co-working landscape on which it operates. Our shared mission is to help ensure the future of farming is ethical, sustainable, and delicious...
Our pierogi are handmade in small batches using ingredients exclusively grown on-farm and around Vermont. Our frozen wholesale market demand has doubled annually from launch in 2020. We aim to build a team of dedicated worker-owners to reach sustainable scale and create more space and opportunities to expand into hot/direct/event sales as we build new kitchen spaces and get this pierogi bus on the road.
Job description
Training provided: our pierogi process is simple but requires grace, attention to detail, and an ability to maintain focus and pace through repetitive daily tasks. Applicants should be able lift >50 lbs with some regularity and comfortably stand through six+ hour shifts. Like many kitchen-based positions, dishes, cleanliness, food safety are all a part of the job!
Two-week probationary training period, guaranteed wage review/increase at 3 months. Quick mastery of initial tasks leads directly to more hours, more flexible scheduling, additional skill-building opportunities with associated wage increases, production bonuses, and, priority for in-hous promotions as we grow!
We have adapted a taekwondo belt chart to provide clear metrics and skills mastery benchmarks as they correlate to earning higher wages. Every VT Pierogi employee has the opportunity to earn a % of net profit (worker-owner) based on hours worked as they step into a full-time management role (red belt), usually around 6 months.
We are seeking long-term formal production management partners and hope to relinquish much of the day to day operations over the next year or two. We will exclusively promote in-hous for these positions and will require no formal outside education or administrative experience to step into these roles. It is our mission to provide opportunities, like these, that reach just outside of capitalism's status quo. Join us!
Housing and access to arable land is available with 3-month commitment. Couples/pairs encouraged to apply. Visit birdhous.org to find out more about our co-working landscape and experiential residencies.
