Company description John Jay Legal Services, Inc. is a not-for-profit legal services firm that houses and runs the clinic and externship programs at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University. In our clinics, students provide direct legal representation and access to justice for clients on a pro bono basis while being supervised by clinical faculty. In our externships, students work with and learn from practicing lawyers in a variety of placements tailored to their interests. These experiential learning programs offer students the opportunity to gain real-world practical legal experience during their time at Haub Law. Job description Position Summary
The Elisabeth Haub School of Law is offering a program coordinator position in its Food and Beverage Law Clinic. The Program Coordinator will report to and work with the Food and Beverage Law Clinic’s Director and Staff Attorney.
 
The Food and Beverage Law Clinic is a legal clinic housed in the Elisabeth Haub School of Law’s John Jay Legal Services, a not-for-profit legal services office that represents low-income individuals and community organizations in Westchester County. The Clinic provides pro bono transactional legal services to small farms and food and beverage businesses and nonprofits, with legal work primarily performed by law students under the supervision of the Clinic’s Director and Staff Attorney. The Clinic serves dual programmatic and educational missions. By providing excellent legal representation to its clients, the Clinic seeks to facilitate the development of a more just and sustainable regional food system and economy. At the same time, by teaching fundamental lawyering skills and professionalism through hands-on legal work and client interaction, the Clinic seeks to transform law students into practice-ready professionals who can support the needs of New York State agriculture and food businesses.
 
Position Duties
  • Receive inquiries and conduct intake of prospective clients; maintain records of contacts with prospective clients and provide referrals.
  • Maintain and update case management system and conflicts check system.
  • Assist clinical faculty and student interns with organization, proofreading, production, scanning, and other paralegal tasks.
  • Develop and maintain the Food and Beverage Law Clinic and Food Law Program websites, social media pages, and other media.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of database of other professional service providers for New York State farm and food businesses.
  • Draft grant application and grant report materials.
  • Coordinate public-facing programs, including developing agenda and curriculum, identifying speakers, and managing event logistics.
  • Work on new program initiatives as they are developed and implemented.
  • Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Position Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organization and administrative skills.
  • Ability to work independently, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively and sensitively with persons of diverse backgrounds and with persons who may be in crisis.
  • Ability to communicate appropriately with students, faculty, attorneys, and other professionals.
  • Demonstrated interest in agricultural and food policy.
  • Written and oral fluency in Spanish is a plus.
  • Professional office or law office experience, especially public interest or legal services law office, is a plus.
