Job description
The Café Attendant provides direct customer service to our visitors in two on-site locations. The Café Attendant prepares the front-of-the-house for service each day, including table, countertop, and barista service. Working in unison with the Café team, the role is expected to exceed expectations and provide meaningful direct engagement with our visitors and staff.  
 
Café Attendants seat visitors, take orders and requests using a point-of-sale system, make coffee drinks, serve and clear food, and plate dishes such as soups and salads in the kitchen prep area. Café Attendants are sensitive to and accommodate dietary requests, restrictions, preferences, aversions, and allergies with informed choices and alternatives.  

Desired Attributes & Characteristics 
We are looking for experienced, articulate, professional servers with strong presentation skills who can engage visitors in a manner consistent with the visitor experience guidelines at Glenstone. The successful candidate will be sensitive and responsive to visitors’ needs. Candidates should be enthusiastic about serving dishes made from locally sourced, sensibly raised ingredients.

Key Responsibilities 
  • Be responsive to the Chef and Food & Beverage Manager to optimize customer service, resource management, safety, and sanitation. 
  • Work together with the Café team to service multiple on-site locations.  
  • Take orders from visitors and use point-of-sale software and hardware. 
  • Wash and maintain dishes, glasses, flatware, as well as work areas, coffee machines, table appointments, linens, and equipment. 
  • Keep track of inventory and place orders. 
  • Prepare venues for the next service. 
  • Enforce HACCP sanitation as well as allergen awareness guidelines.  
  • Perform other related duties as required. 
Required Skills & Experience 
  • COVID-19 vaccination and up to date on all boosters. 
  • Strong cultural competence, interpersonal communication, planning, and organizational skills. 
  • Minimum of two years of full-time experience in a full-service café, bakery, coffee shop, or restaurant. 
  • Excellent customer service skills. 
  • Able to work four days per week (Thursday through Sunday), ten-hour shifts, with start and end times between 7:00 am to 8:00 pm.  
  • Accuracy and speed in handling emergency situations and providing solutions. 
  • Maintain excellent personal hygiene. 
  • Able to lift to 50 lbs. and work on your feet for an entire shift. 
  • Reliable transportation to and from Potomac, MD. 
  • A valid driver’s license required to operate our electric carts. 
Preferred Qualifications 
  • Competency as a Barista. 
  • Allergen awareness and SERV Safe certification. 
  • Spanish language skills. 
Salary and Benefits 
This position pays $18.78 per hour.
